I took lessons when I was very young (around age 10), for about a year. I read sheet music, although not very quickly.

The current way I play, is I find a sheet music selection I enjoy, then just practice stanza by stanza, not moving foward until it is perfected/memorized. People are who are really good can just start playing when you put the sheet music in front of them. I can't do that by any means.

Anyone got advice or experiences of the such?

I can only play To Zanarkand (http://www.squaresound.com/midis/ff10/pianocollections/01_tozanarkand.mid) and I'm currently working on Eyes On Me (http://www.squaresound.com/midis/ff8/piano/ff8_03-20_eyes_on_me.mid). I tried Mozart's Turkish March but I think it's beyond me for now....

I always loved the sound of the piano. Such a grand instrument. If there was one instrument I wish I could play it would definitely be the piano. The guitar comes a close second. All I can play is the theme to the Halloween movies. Can't even do chopsticks or Moonlight Sonata. Maybe someday. It's never too late to learn.
