A high school student, obsessed with Nazi history, crosses paths with a Nazi fugitive by chance. He blackmails the Nazi into teaching him all about the Nazi era, and finally turns into a Nazi himself.

The kid gives a Hitler-esque speech during his senior year graduation and outsmarts a fag Jew counselor who out to bust him. Check it out.

I may be remembering this wrong, but doesn't the ending differ quite a bit from the one Stephen King utilizes in the novel?
It should be added that the film-ending is the better of the two (if indeed I'm at all right about the endings differing).

Wouldn't surpise me if Bryan Singer added his own touches to the film. He also directed "The Usual Suspects", another outstanding film.

"A blood-chilling, heart-stopping thriller!"

Oy vey! I don't want to have my blood chilled or my heart stopped. That would spell the end of little old me. Movie taglines are pretty corny.

A non-stop thrill ride full of laughs for the whole family!

Critics agree, Hymiewood Trash is a rip roaring adventure through the imagination!

Simply incredible! It's what everyone is talking about! You must see this film, now!

Do you really think this movie would show the Nazis in a good light? I don't think any film this big would or could. No way. I remember seeing it a long time ago so and can't recall much of it, so I can't say much. But I do know that it's message can't be that the kid wins in the end because of his conversion to a Hitler Youth member. No way.

I don't mind Ian McKellen much. He was good in LOTR. But he is a fruit. No fruit would play a pro-Nazi part. Apt Pupil is like American History X. What can you not talk about in the Kwa? Race. What do these movies deal with? Race. Controversy sells tickets. Bottom line.

Whether Ian McKellan is a fruit or not has no bearing on his acting ability, which is excellent.

Interesting footnote: McKellan played a Nazi in "Apt Pupil", and a Jewish concentration camp survivor in "X-Men".

At the top of his game, Stephen King has a real gift for mining monsters--zero-at-the-bone horror--out of everyday faces and places. Adapted from a novella in the 1982 collection that also spawned Stand by Me and The Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil looks at first as if it might draw authentically enlightening terror from the soul-cancer that makes blood relations of a Southern California golden boy (Brad Renfro) and an aging Nazi war criminal (Sir Ian McKellen). Turned on by a high-school course about the Holocaust, Todd Bowden (such a bland handle for this top-of-his-class sociopath!) tracks down Kurt Dussander, a former Gestapo killer hiding in the shadows of sunny SoCal. Blackmailing the old man into sharing his firsthand stories of genocide, the teenager trips out on the virtual reality of the monster's memories. There's perverse play here on the way a kid hungry for knowledge can bring a long-retired teacher or grandparent back to life. Truly superb as James Whale in Gods and Monsters, McKellen brings subtlety to this Stephen King creepshow: his desiccated Dussander is like a mummy or vampire revivified by Todd's appetite for atrocity.

I kinda liked this movie. I enjoyed the part where they beat the homeless guy to death in the basement!I must say, if this film was supposed to be anti-Hitler propaganda, It didn't work for me :D
