I'm getting a little tired of my mp3 collection; anyone got any good suggestions on what to download? I would like something unusual or at least mildly so, but then again, most of what we WNs listen to is not exactly in the Top Ten lists on MTV.
I am looking for something with power,
and something advanced,
and something romantic to play for the ladies. :)
My own short list of suggestions, off the top of my hat:
1. Judas Priest, Touch of Evil (power)
2. Europe, The Final Countdown (power, sorta)
3. Tjajkovskij, Allegro con fuoco (advanced)
4. Tjajkovskij, Swan Lake intro (advanced)
5. Sarah Brightman, Scarborough Fair (romance)
6. Sarah McLachlan, Angel (romance)

If you want power:
Soundgarden-lead vocalist Chris Cornell one of the best hard rock singers ever
Alice In Chains-Layne Staley and co. could definitely make good rock
Circle Jerks-pretty good alt rock
Bloodhound Gang-not power
ZZ Top-ok maybe old and bit worn, but their tunes still stand
Advanced or Classical
Beethoven, Wagner, Mozart, Vivaldi, can't go wrong with The Nutcracker
Romance:
Coldplay
Stick with soundtracks to big hit romantic comedy films.

Fredrik,
I've recently been listening to some rather interesting tunes that my friend in Russia turned me on to: Von Thronstahl & Days of the Trumpet. Rather dark, yet without any of the melodramatic, queer fluff. Von Thronsthal has a 3 or 4 albums, and couple of very unique videos that I found on Emule, as well. One is staged in an old hall, with very NS overtones. I think it's called The Master or something akin to that. Their site, I believe, is: www.vonthronstahl.de Both bands have a classical edge incorporated with the booming militaristic drums. It's a very sharp combination. Do give Imperium Internum a listen.

You cannot go wrong with Hitler's favorite composer: Wagner.

All good suggestions, thanks. Hmm, nifty von Strondahl site. Why don't I ever meet any gals dressed up in military regalia?
No suggestions for easy-listening music late in the evening with the femmes, eh? Perhaps I'm asking the wrong crowd. :)

Circle Jerks - Alt rock? I thought they were a punk band.

I like the fascist aesthetic of Von Thronstahl. Love the München and Nürnberg photos! Now to find their Musik!

Yes, as stated:http://www.the-trumpet-call.de/
My gal loves them, as well. You might say, regardless what the hour is. ;) There are several mp3s on the site, they're a bit more soothing than von Thronstahl. I'm rather fond of this pic, too:http://www.vonthronstahl.de/pics/ga-bild11.jpg It's a shame I can't her to wear something like this.

Yes, Spandau, it's pretty slick. Check out the label's site:http://www.vaws-online.de/ There's a tribute album to Breker & Thorak with some art and pics, too. From what I'm told, these two bands are the "truest" to politics. They work with cuturally nationalist zines, such as Metapo & Nation und Europa. If you dig deep enough, you can find some really cool stuff on some of these sites.
Then again, what do I know. Stiff Little Fingers, Ramones & The Clash still get regular play on my old turntable. It's the price I must pay for being dragged, as a little rugrat, to the Whiskey, Starwood and Cukoo's Nest. :)

Some old romantic stuff Fredrik ?
I'd suggest a couple old Joe Jackson tunes:
'Breaking Us in Two'
'Steppin' Out'
They're both pretty commercial compared to his earlier stuff but both songs are easy going and female friendly. His album 'I'm the Man' contains more than a few easy-listening tunes aside from a couple hard rockers. The hard rockers are noted below. The rest of the album is kvinne friendly and contains some genuinely likable and and upbeat songs.
1. On Your Radio [Hard rockin]
2. Geraldine And John
3. Kinda Kute
4. It's Different For Girls
5. I'm The Man [Hard Rockin]
6. The Band Wore Blue Shirts
7. Don't Wanna Be Like That
8. Amateur Hour [Download this one if nothing else]
9. Get That Girl
10. Friday
These above are genuinely superior songs while at the same time pretty low key yet interesting and female friendly. They're off the top of my HAT as opposed to american style av toppet av mitt hode (joking, but as you know that's the English expression). I can think of others, but you'll not go wrong downloading this collection.
P.S. Download this one too --
'Don't Dream it's Over' - Crowded House
Excellent melody, female friendly

Are the Twelve Caesars (Caesars Palace) popular in Sweden ? I think '(I'm gonna) Kick You Out' is a damn good song

An ex-girlfriend of mine exposed me to Theatre of Tragedy, although as a northern European I bet you're probably already familiar with them... "Venus" is a particularly beautiful and powerful song, I think.
And Now For Something Completely Different.... Robert Earl Keen. Real Texas Folk/Country. He's not much of a singer, but damned if his songs aren't simply amazing. Get "Tom Ames' Prayer", "Jennifer Johnson and Me", "Feelin' Good Again", "Gringo Honeymoon".
Something that a different ex-girlfriend of mine really liked, especially when "getting in the mood" was Sarah MacLaughlan (sp?). Very... girly. Oh, oops, I see you already listed her. :)
Also, find some pieces by Nabuo Uematsu. (Japanese composer for the Final Fantasy video games) There are several CDs worth of piano music and orchestral versions of video game tunes. "Forever Rachel", "Celes" "Tina" (or "Terra") and "Kids Run Through the City Corner" are all pretty good from Final Fantasy VI (the peak of the series IMHO).
Random electronica:
Andain - Beautiful Things (Gabriel and Dresden Remix) (mixed on Tiesto's Nyana album, CD 2)
3 tracks in a row from Paul Oakenfold Essential Selection vol. 1 -- get them all and play them in a row:
7 - Skip Raider feat. Jada - Another Day
8 - Jan Johnston - Flesh (Tilt Remix)
9 - Solar Stone - Seven Cities
John Digweed - Northern Exposure 2 (whole CD)
ATB - Let U Go
Chicane feat. Maire Brennan - Saltwater
Orion - See Me Here
Lots of these fall in more than one category... e.g. "See Me Here" falls in both the Power and the Romantic categories, IMO. Overall, it's a very... sexy song. Good, strong beat at just the right tempo, with lots of breathy female vocals. (At least this one particular mix I have.... Skope's Vocal Remix. Found on the album "Gatecrasher - Digital (CD 3: Chill Out: Let's Get Digital and Fall in Love)" (no, I didn't buy this album, but my friend loaned it to me and I was resistant to listening to it for quite some time with a name like that, but it turned into one of my favorites after I gave it a try.))
I would make sure that all of these are available on KaZaA, but my PC's motherboard unfortunately fell ill due to capacitor leakage :-\ No KaZaA on the Mac here.

I've got Robert Earl Keen's "Happy Holidays to All" filed. (I think that's the name of it....). Excellent Christmas song.

Hey Intrepid,
Nice to see another old punk here on the board! I'm So-Cal Oldschool also. Did ya ever go to Godzilla's? I never went to the Cookoo's nest as that was too far for me and as I was 15, I was w/out transport.

Hey Spandau,
Yep, I went to Godzillas a half dozen times or so. Funny thing, though, I can't remember its location. The only gig, at least that I remember going to there is the Damned, and I think I saw Anti Pasti there, too. Beat-up wharehouse, near train tracks, right? I didn't have a sled either, so I know what you're saying. That's about circa '82-'83, right? The old memory is gettin' blurry. I was always into the English tunes more than the stateside stuff, except maybe... X, Wierdos, Gears and a good chunk of O.C. bands. What area did you grow up in? Through High School, I was in the S.G. Valley, so 99% of the kids were hippies. We were a little "culturally deprived," you might say. That is, at least compared to the beach kids.
Cheers
