I was watching this oscar quality film the other night, with Loren Avedon brilliant in the lead role as Scott Wyde who takes on half the Viet Cong and the Soviets to rescue his girlfriend, he is helped by his sidekicks Mac Javis and Cynthia Rothrock to defeat the Soviet Army led by the evil Yuri.
A classic 80's Martial Arts action thriller.

Its a realistic plot then?
A shame it did not address the conflict that occurred with both Saxon, Z-Celt and the even older Pict tribes in the years after the Roman withdrawal.
As for the VietCong, could their aspirations expressed in the film match the late Owen Glnydwr's legend in fighting the lowland Sassenach?.
As for the best filmed fiction, it stands most tall, where there are historic precedents for it, I feel.
Scott Wyde? curiously named as a fellow Scot ?. Not really.
I shall not rise to the bait

Well its a classic of its genre, the end fight between Avedon and Yuri is quite good, especially as Avedon uses his brilliant kickboxing skills to defeat the Soviet.
The sequel however, No Retreat, No Surrender 3 is quite a bad film, it has a bad plot, wooden acting and Franco has got to be one of the crapist bad guys i have seen in a film. His fake Blonde mullet is a joke.

More complex than simply that I feel.
Quote: especially as Avedon uses his brilliant kickboxing skills to defeat the Soviet.
In real life Soviet manpower among other things would have prevented this I feel

As a film the story has parallels with the bad plot against the Royal house of Cinaed (Kenneth) Mac Alpine which was coming into prominence over the combined P-Celtic/Pictish kingdoms (though other rulers had managed this before contrary to what some think) at a time when the British Isles was transformed from tribal fiefs into dominant spheres of influence due to the Norse incursions.

Indeed this ties in with the good guys defeat of the Baddies for taking the film directors Dollar(Fife).
Quote: His fake Mullet is a joke.
Norse control of the sea ways in this period dominated and this changed the nature of the fish traded between the Scottish Dal Riata and the Ulster faction, so Mullet would have declined in dietary importance as it was regarded as a scavenger species and unworthy of the Dal Riata. Other substitute fake fish would have been traded at this period, I feel.
And given rise to the controversial term fake Mullet.
There was also the fact that the film action between Yuri and Avedon was to become a pathway for both men.
It reminded me of the historical event of the communications between Danish Northumbria and Norse Ireland, which the likes of Halfdan's attempts at York 874-5 may demonstrate.

Er right  If you like this film then NutHouseMere, then i recommend you check out Best of the Best with Eric (I'm Julias brother) Roberts. I'm sure it will remind you of more ancient British history. :p

Yours was a good review (of No Retreat and No Surrender 2) and indeed post but I think I will have to see just how bad the film with Eric Roberts is myself as it features Tom Cruithine it.
As in Top Gun.

Agreed.
The name Roberts is Pre-Celt or Celt. Its a debate that pops up all the time with many of my theories.
You will like the new Arthur Film.
That is King Arthur, not Dudley Moore though both played piano (to an extent), and are now dead .
It addresses the Barbarian conspiracy an event that was supposed to have happened in 367 AD when the Picts, along with P-Scots & Saxon sea bandits made co ordinated attacks on Roman Britain.
Near Scotland.
Marcellinus mentions it but Eldritch of Romford may contradict.
Of those mentioned in your thread I wonder who the Avedonni (or old ones were)?. In conflict with the Yurii I feel.
A contemporary observer would feel the Yurii less likely to gain the whole (soon to be) Scottish kingdom than the combined pre-Picts, Britons, Dal Riata and Avedonii.
