Ambush gang shoot man and puppy, then kidnap girlfriend
A CROSS-border hunt is under way for a gang who shot a man and his dog and abducted his girlfriend.
The 26-year-old from Derry, was in a stable condition in Letterkenny General Hospital yesterday after undergoing surgery to his neck.
The couple had just reached their home near St Johnston, Co Donegal, at around 9.15pm on Thursday night, when four armed men opened fire on their car -- after the woman got out to open a gate.
One of the balaclava-clad gunmen fired through the windscreen of the silver Audi with a shotgun, while another fired a handgun through the driver's window.
Alarm
The wounded man, who previously worked as a taxi driver, managed to drive away from the ambush and raised the alarm in the nearby village of Manorcunningham.
The terrified woman was bundled into a navy blue Ford Transit van and driven two kilometres away, where she was dumped by the attackers on the side of the road.
She managed to make her way to a petrol station in the village and raise the alarm.
The dog, a St Bernard pup, which was also injured in the hail of bullets, underwent emergency life-saving surgery in an animal hospital in Letterkenny.
