I will read up on OpenDNS.
Instead of OpenDNS you may want to look into squid.
http://www.squid-cache.org/ to set up a proxied VPN
You can use Socat: http://www.dest-unreach.org/socat/
for IP multicasting and tunneling over a P.N. etc..

It's rather simple, you simply change your ISP's DNS entries to theirs. You can change it on your router/firewall or in your machine's network configuration. See https://www.opendns.com/k12/start for details.
I've used OpenDNS on and off for a while. Their DNS servers are pretty fast. The only reason not to use them is that they will know what hosts you visit, but then again, so does your ISP. :-)
