Billy Bragg is reportedly to re-write the words of the hymn I Vow to Thee My Country, after the suffragan Bishop of Hulme, the Rt Rev Stephen Lowe last week said it was heretical.

Bragg told the Daily Telegraph that he had never felt completely comfortable with it, adding: "Gustav Holst's Thaxted is a wonderful tune, but I've never liked the words about unquestioning allegiance to what a country does, whether right or wrong."
