I never particularly cared for the Metal genre - probably steming from my disdain for hippies & their "ego" guitars in my youth - but I've enjoyed several "Metal" groups with female frontwomen of late. I really enjoy this gal's voice, the Nightwish chick. She's obviously trained - possibly in opera - their classical sound is rather sharp, and her voice is very beautiful. Any other female singers out there that are this talented, with this type of sound?

Well as far as female vocalists go, I've always liked Debbie Harry of Blondie and Kim Deal of The Pixies. I suppose that ugly chick in X was OK too.
Yep, I dug D.H. and Exene, too. I thought Exene looked pretty cool - if the look was emulated on a pretty gal - but she was a mug. I was thinking about other groups, maybe like Valkyria. Clean, crisp White female vocals with classical elements mixed in with a heavy guit'.
Edit: I've never listened to S.S. What do they sound like? I thought Current 93 was techo, industrial. Perhaps I'm confusing them with someone else.

Does anyone recommend any of their music?

Download the Nemo video. She looks exquisite, as her skin blends in with the snow with the stark contrast of a time-period red dress. I really think she was trained in classical compositions. If not, then she is simply a prodigy.

Thanks, Spengler. Are there any particular songs of the two bands that really stand out, so I can see if I like them?

Norwegian gothic metal with a female singer.

The best album of theirs was with Liv Christie, Aegis.
Another band that is quite inspired is Therion from Sweden, symphonic, operatic and deeply inspired lyrics.
