The Labour Party have traditional been the kingmaker in Irish politics, never being able to be the majority party in Government. Not that they haven't done damage in their various coalitions.
Now they have overtaken the party which formed the majority of Governments since the Republic of Ireland was established, the Fianna Fáil (pronounced fall) Party.
RTE News: Labour surge past FF in latest poll (http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0212/poll.html)
A surge in support for Labour has driven Fianna Fáil into third place in the latest opinion poll.
The tnsMRBI poll in tomorrow's Irish Times also shows that satisfaction with the Government and the Taoiseach has fallen again.
The poll was carried out on Monday and Tuesday, with a sample of 1,000 voters around the country.
It shows Fianna Fáil support down 5% to 22%, behind Fine Gael, 32%,and Labour, up 10% to 24%.
Iceland is about to elect a leftist party with a lesbian leader as PM. The USA has elected Marxist, Socialist Barack Obama to office.
The so-called "credit crunch" is benefiting mostly the left.

The so-called "credit crunch" is benefiting mostly the left.
For now. What could one expect? The right doesn't have the lever of the pop culture. We have to grow organically, with deep roots, or not at all.
The left is full of television watchers and weffare recipients. I'm serious. Ever look at a liberal blog? In the comments they are talking about sports scores and what they saw on TV last night. They still make inside jokes about TV characters.
The left gets a culture where it's all but illegal to criticize them; where there are millions of fake government "jobs" designed to give an easy living to leftists (think "social services" and "special ed teachers")
They get every possible advantage. The mass media gives them the moral high ground, that even their opposition is phony and does their agenda anyway, and since they have a "right wing" brand name like Republican, the left gets to blame them when mortgage loans to illegal aliens turns out badly.
The pushbutton consumer culture that is currently in its death throes was keeping most Americans in a permanent childhood. Even the more responsible people that were raising their kids and holding jobs were still mental children, just a little less so. They still keep the TV on and accept whatever filth spews out of it; they still went along with every bit of degeneracy and evil.
The economic crunch is going to change the culture at a fundamental level. Social services workers and special ed teachers are going to have to get back to kinder, kirche, kuche. It's going to be a cultural shift, but it won't be a conscious shift for most people. Only for the elite men and a few women.
For the masses, it's just going to be a hard new set of rules -- live by Nature, die by Nature. Accountability, responsibility, pulling your own weight. Grow up and be an adult, or die. Mess with the adults, and get killed.
Fascism is the Law of Nature. Nature's bats last, and she's getting ready to swing for the stands.

There is no longer any left and right, only bait and switch.

The way I see it there's no longer any left or right, only centre-left.

Self-respecting people of any European ancestry haven't been able to rely on the right for over a half-century, anyhow.

The positive side of this is that the mainstream leftist culture is thoroughly unsubstantial and almost entirely reliant on ill-conceived entertainment, fifth-rate "art" and a political party so mired in hypocrisy and corruption that it's become very easy to turn anyone with as much as half a brain away from it. I've been doing this for years.
If those partially responsible "adults" really wanted to parent their kids, they'd encourage them to read, to think critically and to be physically and mentally active. Television would be marginalized, and limited to good films.
