FEARS are mounting that Ireland could default on its soaring national debt pile, amid continuing worries about its troubled banking sector.

The cost of buying insurance against Irish government bonds rose to record highs on Friday, having almost tripled in a week. Debt-market investors now rank Ireland as the most troubled economy in Europe.

Simon Johnson, the former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, called for this weekend’s meeting of G7 finance ministers to put Ireland’s troubles at the top of the agenda.

Johnson said: “Don’t, please, tell me more about the basic principles of financial reform unless and until you have addressed the Irish problem. And don’t tell me the Irish have to sort this out for themselves. Eventually, the world always comes to help; check your notes on Iceland.

“It’s much better and much cheaper to come in early and decisively. We need a plan of action for Ireland, and we need it now.”

Pledges made by Ireland to support its banking sector amount to 220% of the country’s annual economic output. The total loans held in Irish banks are more than 11 times the size of the economy.

Following the scandal at Anglo Irish Bank over undisclosed loans, the market fears there are more hidden problems that could ultimately fall to the state to resolve.

With Ireland set to borrow an additional €15 billion (£13.4 billion) this year, the national debt pile will hit €70 billion.

The cost of insuring Irish debt hit 350 basis points on Friday, meaning that for every £100 of debt it would cost £3.50 to insure against default. A year ago it would have cost 10p to insure every £100 of Irish debt.

One possible solution would see Germany buy billions of euros of Irish government debt through a fund set up by the European Central Bank.

IRELAND has EUR5.4trillion of oil lying off the west coast, it was revealed yesterday.

The oil reserve is enough to pay off our national debt of EUR60billion almost a hundred times over and banish our recession woes for decades to come.

But contracts with foreign companies are preventing us from selling it and transforming us into the Saudi Arabia of Europe.

The state’s lawyers will have to renegotiate with the multinational firms or they will pocket all the profits.

A report by Petroleum Affairs Division of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources stated: “The potential is of at least 10 billion barrels of oil lying off the west coast of Ireland.

“Well data indicate world-class source rocks. Volumetric assessment and expulsion modelling shows volumes of over 130 billion barrels of oil and 50 trillion cubic feet of gas.”

Most of the Irish oil and gas deposits have been pinpointed along an underwater ridge known as the Atlantic Margin which runs parallel to our western shore.

The Dunquin gas field, which is 200km off the coast of Kerry, contains 25 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 4,130 million barrels of oil.

This alone would meet our gas needs - at present consumption levels - for the next 62 years.

So why would they borrow money? Is this a world wide [jewish] plan to drive every western country into 3rd world status? You betcha.

The best thing that could happen to a country would be for it to default. Especially, when more countries follow suit, simultaneously. Nothing would change physically and their national debt slates would be wiped clean.
This was always the joker card of which Latin American countries always held for fighting World Bank/IMF tyranny. Before any of them could use the card, However, the CIA made sure that puppet dictatorships were ruthlessly installed for the very reason of preventing this from happening. Countries always service national debt with foreign capital. The interest payments on these debts are what bring countries to their knees

How about this, tell the Bank of England, owned by a bunch of opportunistic jews to go fuck themselves.

Our people have survived thousands of years without these shitheads, and we can do it again.

These bloodsuckers came to our Island, we didn't go to invade them, they invaded us.

They have no right of Sovereignity, you do, you own Ireland.

Maybe I should move back there and run for politics.

Ireland has been self sufficient for many years, without the help of England or a bunch of jew bankers.

The problems Ireland has had has been the invaders, throw em out.
