In 1989, a tornado roared over the police station in Huntsville, Alabama, then went eastward down Airport Road, turned over a 18-wheel truck at the Memorial Parkway intersection. I was going home from work and about 1/4 mile south of the tornado when it breezed past the parkway. When I crossed the intersection, this big metal trash can went sailing through the air in front of my car, and there was this big truck turned over in the next lane.

The tornado demolished a State Farm Insurance company building (hope they were insured!), tore up an apartment complex, picked up a car and set it upside down atop an auto body shop, and wrecked three churches: Methodist (bam), Catholic (crunch), Presbyterian (smash).

The Presbo church had its steeple torn off and discarded in the middle of the church parking lot. The next day, I dodged the National Guard and took some photos of the funny scene. Later, I had big blow-ups made of the best image and had them framed. I gave one of them to the Atlanta Chapter head of American Atheists. A suitable title: "Act of God."

Subject: Racial bias in news article photos

Many people have preconceptions about race and behavior, and most of their false beliefs were instilled by the mass media with egalitarian propaganda. The White and Black races differ as much in their patterns of behavior as they do in physical appearance, if not more so.

The liberal media go to great lengths to hide this fact. One of the ways they accomplish this deception is to publish the pictures of crime perpetrators less frequently when the suspect is Black and more frequently when a White is accused. Also, the text of an article is much more likely to refer to a perpetrator's race when he is White than when he is Black. It is such a strong characteristic of contemporary journalism that it cannot merely reflect the personal biases of reporters but must surely be a matter of deliberate media policy at high levels.

Likewise, it is difficult to obtain from mainstream media sources honest statistics of Black and White per capita rates for the perpetration of violent crimes. Although such data is available from the FBI website and downloadable in PDF document form, even there all the relevant data is not presented together so that a direct comparison of the races can be made. Anyone interested in making such comparsions must do some extra work and combine statistics from several widely separated tables, sometimes leaping far across the government bureaucracy, say, to the Census Bureau, for some of the necessary information.

It would be better were the media more complete and more honest in the reporting it does, so that Americans could get the true picture of differences in racial behavior more easily. (Some people, you know, avoid intellectual work, especially when the results of that work might conflict with their meticulously indoctrinated beliefs. Cognitive dissonance can be a painful feeling, even when it is a beneficial, painful feeling.)

The passage of several hurricanes through Florida recently has given the media a chance to make amends for past abuses of racial bias. As the looters are caught and arrested, let us see the mainstream media publish racial information as it comes, without suppressing the race of Black perpetrators by any means. Let every looter's photo be published. Let each article state every looter's race, not just in cases where the looters were White.

I don't expect that my suggestion will be taken. There is a certain evil within the journalism profession, and what I've said is akin to asking the Devil not to be so naughty. But this letter might be seen by a few honest people before it is discarded, and, knowing that, I've written it.

I think it's just that we get hurricanes around this part of the planet every year and the [SIZE=3]ODDS[/SIZE] have caught up w/ us. Period.

In Kansas City, MO about 20 or so years ago there was a high school called Ruskin. A tornado ripped through once and tore off the "s" and "k" and you were left with Ru in.
