I recommend a thriller called Southern Comfort (1981): starring Powers Boothe, Kieth Caradine, Fred Ward, Peter Coyote.
Its about a troop of national guardsmen who track into the bayous of Lousiana for a little wargames excersize. Along the way they come across a set of canoes tied to the shore of a lake and not seeing any owners around they decide to make their trip shorter and take them. While paddling across the lake they see a group of cajuns watching them from the woods. For a joke one of the guardsmen opens fire on the cajuns with blank rounds. But a few minutes later their commanding officer suddenly has his head shot off by the cajuns. The guardsmen quickly swim to the side of the lake. Realizing that they're lost and defenseless (because they only have blank rounds) they cautiously make their way out of the bayou. But along the way they're in hot pursuit by the cajuns who set several traps for them--including wild rotweilers, bear traps, spikes, and falling trees. And the cajuns pick them off one by one.
Towards the end of the movie one of the cajuns explains their motivations:
Guardsman: "You want to tell us what the hell's going on here!!??"
Cajun wielding shotgun: "Its quite simple really. This is our home....and nobody fuhk wit us!"
