CLASHES SHAKE CAPITAL SKY NEWS

Violence has erupted at a ceremony in Chile to remember those who died in the military coup led by General Pinochet 31 years ago.

Dozens of people were arrested after police clashed with human rights demonstrators in the capital Santiago.


The former dictator's secret police killed an estimated 3,000 political opponents during his 17-year rule.

Police used tear gas and water trucks in running battles with the demonstrators.

At least 25 protesters were detained and six police officers were wounded, including one hit in the face with a rock.

President Ricardo Lagos met with his Cabinet and made an appeal for unity among Chileans and "to work thinking in the future of our country".

Pinochet spent the day at his suburban Santiago mansion meeting some former aides.

His spokesman said Pinochet remains in delicate but stable health condition.

The 88-year-old former dictator has been diagnosed a mild case of dementia, suffers from diabetes and arthritis and has a pacemaker.

He has been stripped from his immunity from prosecution and may be tried on human rights charges.

Funny, ain't it, that every squirmy socialist in the world wants the grand old Chilean's head on a pike; however, I don't see any clamour - ever - for the Soviet block butchers to account for anything. :mad:

Human rights demonstrators ? Half of them don't even look human .

That's under 200 people a year - not the millions of deaths per year caused by the Jewish Left.

Heck, more people, in medium-sized states here, die in traffic accidents than this.

Pinochet's only mistake: he should've killed more of the bastards & not given away power.
