A former British Airways steward who conned colleagues out of £200,000, was found guilty of murdering his partner in a Travelodge hotel room.

Glenn Rycroft was a prolific conman, the Old Bailey heard. He battered Gareth MacDonald over the head with a fire extinguisher at the hotel at the M4 Heston services in September 2007.

Mr MacDonald, a 30-year-old father of three, had left his wife and children to move in with Rycroft in Rhewl, North Wales, after meeting him on the internet.

But the victim had started to become suspicious of his lover after money started going missing from his bank account.

Detectives believe Rycroft had targeted MacDonald to cheat money out of him in the latest of his scams.

Detective Sergeant Nick Mason said: "Gareth MacDonald and his family had money and Glenn Rycroft obviously realised that. It was another gravy train for him.

"It is quite obvious that Rycroft is motivated by greed and he is the type of person who will do anything to get his hands on some money."

Rycroft, 33, originally from Salford, Greater Manchester, denied murder, claiming he planned to marry Mr MacDonald and would never harm him.

He claimed a rent boy must have killed him while he was out of the room but jurors rejected his story and he now faces a life sentence. Sentencing was adjourned until Friday.

Rycroft had conned BA colleagues and relatives in an investment scam starting in September 2000. Some of them lost their life savings.

When he was on the verge of being caught out, he pretended he had cancer to fleece more cash out of his victims.

He shaved his head to pretend he was having chemotherapy and accused those he owed money to of being insensitive about his illness.

Rycroft organised raffles and other fundraising events on the pretext that he had to go abroad for expensive medical treatment and used the money to go on lavish holidays to Florida, Australia, Portugal and the Bahamas.

In December 2003 he admitted 25 charges of obtaining money by deception to the tune of more than £200,000, none of which has ever been recovered.

Crispin Aylett QC, prosecuting, said: "This defendant has shown himself to be rather more than a common-or-garden liar. He is rather a good one."

CHICAGO -- Not many beauty pageants end with a judge and contestant attacking another judge -- with a trophy.

Two men were ordered held on bond Wednesday after they were charged with beating a judge at a gay men's beauty pageant earlier this month on Chicago's West Side.

Leroy Tinch, 28, of the 2200 block of Emerson Street in Evanston and Anthony Johnson, 23, of the 8200 block of Keating Avenue in Skokie were both charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm, a class one felony, said Andrew Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office.

The men were ordered held on $75,000 bond by Circuit Court Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil.

Prosecutors said the men were at the pageant at 3350 W. Jackson Blvd., where Johnson was a contestant and Tinch was a judge.

Johnson allegedly became angry with another judge after he voted for different contestant, grabbed the trophy and hit the judge in the head with it.

Tinch then jumped in and began hitting the judge with a sharp object, cutting him over his left eye, Conklin said.

The victim suffered a broken jaw and a cut on his finger required seven stitches, Conklin said.

Owner Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Job Candidates

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police said that they raided a north side business Tuesday afternoon after allegations surfaced that job candidates were sexually assaulted by the owner.

A warrant was served at A & M Global Staffing, a restaurant staffing business located in the 5900 block of Roche Drive, 10TV’s Cara Connelly reported.

According to police, the business owner, Alonzo Pittsley, allegedly offered drinks to job candidates.

Police said that the drinks were drugged and then Pittsley, 40, allegedly engaged in sexual activities with the job candidates.

He w
as charged with gross sexual imposition and sexual battery.

Police told 10TV that 3-4 men came forward with the allegations. Investigators said that they hoped more potential victims would come forward.

“A lot of times the victims feel that the crime is their fault; that they allowed themselves to be victimized,” said Columbus police. Sgt. David Pelphrey. “That’s not the case here.
This person knew what he was doing. He selected his victims for a reason and they had not fault in what happened to them.”

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Many parents at Ford Road Elementary School Friday did not even know about the charges against one of the faculty members there.

But 2nd grade teacher Timothy Sanders may never be back after Memphis Police said they caught him in a sexual situation with a 17 year-old boy.

"They're held to a higher standard," said parent Libra Pree. "Because they supposed to be educating our children, not messing with them," she added.

Police said officers on routine patrol around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning decided to look in the window of Sanders' car when they saw it parked in a lot at Greenbelt Park on Mud Island.

Court records stated that both Sanders and the boy were "partially unclothed" and preparing to have sex.

"You could say yes," said Major Loris Hopkins with Memphis Police.

Hopkins said Sanders exposed his privates and even wore a condom during the encounter. However, he was caught just before having sex with the victim who is one year below the age of consent.

"His parents were contacted and they cooperated with the investigation," said Hopkins. "They wanted to press charges," she added.

Police said Sanders met the victim on MySpace and initially agreed to be just friends.

"It is disturbing that he's a teacher," said Major Hopkins. "Especially when his everyday activity is around minor children," she added.

High-profile Minneapolis business attorney Aaron Biber is due to be arraigned in Hennepin County court today on charges that he had sex with a 14-year-old boy in October at his Shorewood home, and that he was seeking another sexual encounter with the teen. According to the criminal complaint, Biber has known the boy for four years. It says that he gave the boy alcohol, sent him graphic texts and pictures of his own genitals, and engaged in unprotected anal and oral sex with him. After suffering injuries from one encounter, the boy contacted an unnamed person, who contacted South Lake Minnetonka Police. The complaint says police began monitoring Biber's communications with the boy, and arrested him at the Eden Prairie Mall, where he had arranged to meet with the boy. He spent Monday night at the Hennepin County jail. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said he'll be seeking $1 million bail at arraignment.
"During the taped phone call, the defendant graphically described how much he enjoyed anally penetrating Child A and how much he enjoyed having Child A's penis penetrating his anus," the complaint says. "He described a two-hour session of anal and oral sex without benefit of lubrication or condoms. Referring to the October 2009 abuse, the Defendant stated that he was aware Child A was "inebriated" and that Child A "was doing everything [he] could to stay awake and hard."

Michael "Mickey" Gil, who swept to glittery glory as the captain of two gay Carnival krewes after careers as an officer in the Israeli Air Force and the co-owner of a New York City restaurant and cabaret, died Monday at Touro Infirmary of complications from gallbladder surgery. He was 73.
Born in Menachamiya, Israel, to Russian immigrants, Mr. Gil settled in New Orleans in 1982 after stints in Vienna and New York City.


Mardi Gras interested him early on, he said in a 2003 interview, but as a spectator. In 1985, Mr. Gil's companion, George Patterson, persuaded him to join the Krewe of Petronius. A year later, Mr. Gil was its captain, the man who not only ran the organization but also was master of ceremonies at the annual balls, the pageants where outlandishly spangled and feathered men in drag, generally topped off by towering headdresses, strut and preen for applauding audiences. His reign lasted 15 years, until Mr. Gil was ousted by members who felt others deserved a chance at the top job. So he walked out of the krewe, Patterson said, followed by 16 others, and formed a new organization, the Mystic Krewe of Satyricon (http://satryicon.wordpress.com/), with Mr. Gil as captain.

SPARTA, Michigan -- Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against a Sparta, Michigan man after investigators said he performed circumcisions on adult males without a license.

Thomas Heugel had a "a makeshift operating room in his house," according to a Kent County sheriff's lieutenant.

"He quite often wore a doctor's uniform that really left the impression he was a medical doctor," Lt. Kevin Kelley said on Wednesday.

Investigators believe the circumcisions were the only medical procedures Heugel was performing.

Kelley asks anyone who had a medical procedure performed by Heugel to contact the sheriff's department.

"We really don't know what his motives were and we continue to investigate," Kelley said. BANDERA, Texas -- The Bandera Police Department is crediting a hidden camera sting for helping apprehend a 50-year-old man they say was leaving sexually graphic messages on the walls of a public restroom.
A few weeks ago, city employees began noticing an increasing amount of graffiti inside the men's restroom on Main Street. What upset employees was the tone and topic of the messages -- sexually graphic images were paired with messages describing sexual acts and a time and place.
Police decided to install a hidden camera in the public and open part of the men's room, aiming it so it would capture whoever was writing on the walls.
In almost no time, officers said they spotted the same person coming and going, writing on the walls.
Police identified the man in the hidden camera video as Michael Sergeant. Sergeant was arrested a short time later and charged with three counts of graffiti, all misdemeanors.
Bandera Police do not think Sergeant was targeting children in his posts.
