Two Pioneers players arrested after bar fight
WILKES-BARRE - Two Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers football players were suspended indefinitely by Head Coach Rich Ingold after they were allegedly involved in a brawl outside a South Main Street cafe early Thursday morning.
City police said Justin Denmar Parrish, 25, assaulted a woman, who was knocked unconscious, and Jason Prince Acquaye, 23, failed to leave the area when told by officers, according to arrest records.
Police said the incident began just before 2 a.m. at Cafe Luna, 41 S. Main St., while they were investigating a report that a man was waving a gun. When police arrived, they said a large group of people were running out of the cafe.
Parrish allegedly punched Nicole Allen, of Wilkes-Barre, when she attempted to pull Parrish off a man, police said.
Acquaye left the area only to return with several males and females who taunted police, according to arrest records.
Police said Allen was knocked five to 10 feet from where Parrish struck her. She was transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township for head injuries.
"They broke team rules and I have to suspend them both," Ingold said. "From what I gather, it's enough to suspend them right now indefinitely."
Their suspensions won't have an impact on the team, Ingold said.
The Pioneers, with a record of 11-2, is scheduled to play the best team in the arenafootball2 league Saturday night in Washington against the 12-1 Spokane Shock.
