WILMINGTON — As her blue eyes welled with tears, Delaware Correctional Center counselor Cassie Arnold on Friday described 6½ hours of terror when she was held hostage and raped by inmate Scott A. Miller.

Miller, who was serving 699 years on 37 counts of rape, robbery and kidnapping, was shot and killed by a tactical officer in the July 12 incident.

Ms. Arnold, 27, said Friday everything since that day has been a blur.

She said she suffers from flashbacks, dozens an hour, that are so debilitating she cannot carry out normal, everyday activities.

The 27-year-old Smyrna-area resident, who has worked at the prison for three years, said she chose to tell her story in the hope that her candor could illustrate the jeopardy that all DCC employees face daily......

......Miller, 45, the 6-foot-2, 265-pound inmate who held Ms. Arnold hostage and was fatally shot moments after raping her, was a participant in an eight-week anger management group led by the counselor.

"I turned around and walked by a little kitchenette and walked by a bathroom," where she said she saw a "yellow streak" go through the bathroom door and close the door quickly.

"I immediately thought that there was an inmate in the bathroom," she said.

She said she opened the door, saw Miller and asked, "What are you doing in there?"

He made an almost incoherent remark and when she said, "What?," he threw his arm around her neck and produced an "11-inch shank," crafted from a bucket handle, Ms. Arnold said.

"He said, ‘If you scream, I'll kill you right here,'" she said.

"I screamed my head off. ‘Oh my God, Miller's got me!'"

She said Miller demanded she be quiet, pulled her into the bathroom and threw her against a wall.

I don't know what the role of a DCC counselor is and if she was there thinking that she could somehow help these sub-humans, but how very brave of Ms. Arnold to allow her image to be used along with her story. I would say that almost any sane white person reading her story is bound to notice the difference between a pretty, young white woman and a smug, shoulda-been-aborted nigger.

About 4 p.m., he put the shank at her throat and told her to be silent. He slowly removed her clothes, and began smelling and touching her.

"I don't have anything to lose,'' he said, staring at her naked body. She scanned the room for a weapon, but he pushed her face down on the floor and raped her.

While being treated, she worried that she had become pregnant or contracted AIDS. She was given the morning-after birth-control pill, and medication to boost her immune system. Days later, she was relieved that both tests were negative.

Today, her journey of healing is a daily struggle filled with jarring reminders of her terror.

A yoga instructor, she has trouble doing basic exercises. "I'll be doing stretches behind my back and all of a sudden [it feels like] my hands are tied behind my back,'' she said.

Last week she saw a co-worker while grocery shopping, triggering a flashback that left her in a panic.

And every minute, it seems, the horrifying pictures blaze into her head. "It can come out of nowhere,'' Arnold said. "I can blink my eyes and see Scott Miller.''

I can’t help but feel angry about this story. However, I am not sure that Ms. Arnold deserves our sympathy. It is doubtful that this prison counselor ever stopped to consider the effects of multi-culturism, or objected to any of the government’s destructive racial policies. In fact, it is probable that she was and remains violently opposed to any suggestion of racial separation or sound Natural policies.

I am curious what the Pro-Life people on the board think of this story. This woman was administered the “morning after pill” by hospital staff. Many right wingers would consider this to be murder. To them, any life, even the spawn of a nigger rapist, is sacred and should be preserved. It was the ravings of the Christian Pro-Lifers that turned my position from agreement to vehement Pro-Choice.

I just wanted to say that I am a "pro-lifer" and I only care about saving the lives of white children. The spawn of a nigger rapist, or for that matter, any nigger is not sacred, in my opinion. I could care less if some niggress chooses to kill her child.

absolutely right. the feds passed a weak bill to "address" the problem recently but nothing short of absolute segregation in all prisons, would even touch the problem. that would be a start, then cons would only have to worry about getting punked out by their own kind at least.

the environment in some prisons merits a big fat 1983 lawsuit against the system for a systemic "turning a blind eye" to prisoner rape. not to mention it is a violation of the 8th amendment.
