ZGrams - Where Truth is Destiny

August 2, 2002

Good Morning from the Zundelsite"

This morning I bring you three somewhat shortened items that show
increasing holes in the formerly taken-for-granted and much-stroked
Jewish halo.

When reading Item # 1, please note the emotional trigger words used
throughout the article: "Nazi collaborator", "collaborationist
regime" etc. That an old man unjustly sentenced would have the right
to an appeal against a biased court case should be the focal point:

=46RANCE: PAPON DIDN'T GET A FAIR TRIAL

=46rance denied Papon fair trial, court rules
Jon Henley, Paris
=46riday July 26, 2002
The Guardian

The European court of human rights ruled yesterday that France had
wrongly denied the Vichy-era Nazi collaborator Maurice Papon his
right of appeal.
Lawyers for Papon, the highest-ranking French state official to be
convicted of crimes against humanity, said they would push for a full
retrial for their client. They said his original trial had been wrecked
by excessive media coverage and delays.

"Our aim now is to have his conviction annulled and to win the right to a
retrial. Time is against us because he is old, but we want to start this
from scratch," Francis Vuillemin said.

"For nearly three years Maurice Papon has been illegally, illegitimately
rotting in a French prison," he added. "He has been arbitrarily
imprisoned since his conviction came about following an incomplete,
and therefore
inequitable, trial."

The court in Strasbourg said that France had acted unfairly in refusing
Papon the right to challenge the 10-year jail term he was given in 1998
for his role in sending 1,700 Jews to Nazi death camps between 1942 and 1944
while he was a senior official of the collaborationist Vichy regime in
Bordeaux. (...)

Despite his collaboration with the Vichy regime, Papon managed to escape
a number of post-war purges and went on to enjoy a civil service career as
the chief of Paris police, then budget minister.

His trial, which began in 1997 after 17 years of bitter legal wrangling,
has come to symbolise France's belated attempts to come to terms with one
of the darkest chapters in its history. Only in 1995 did President
Jacques Chirac admit that the state bore a heavy share of
responsibility for the 76,000 Jews rounded up on its territory and
sent to Nazi camps.

In April 1998, after a trial which gripped the nation, the Bordeaux
court finally found Papon guilty of signing orders that led to the
deportation of 1,690 Jews. He was convicted of complicity in crimes
against humanity and sentenced to 10 years.

Papon, who was the secretary general of the wartime Gironde regional
authority, appealed the next day, and in September 1999 asked for a
release from custody before the appeal was heard, as was required by
a French law which has since been abandoned. When that request was
turned down he fled to Switzerland, where he was found within a
matter of days and repatriated to France.

A Paris court decided in October 1999 that by fleeing, Papon had forfeited
his right to appeal. But the seven Strasbourg judges, who also awarded
Papon *29,000 (=A318,000) in compensation for costs and expenses, said he
had "suffered an excessive restriction of his right of access to a
court, and therefore of his right to a fair trial". (...)

Item # 2

The Anti-Defamation League, tellingly founded in 1913, the year that
saw America abandon its monetary say-so to the Federal Reserve, a
privately owned outfit controlled by Jewish elements, is an
organization that claims to be "... the world's leading organization
fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that
counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry." Their seamy record shows
that they are anything but that.

Here they show their meddling with free speech by attacking a
Honduran Cardinal in one of their recent press releases because this
church official had the courage to tell it like it is!

=46or Foxman to claim that the Jewish community does not influence and
strong-arm the US media is really an affront to thinking people!

ADL Outraged by Honduran Cardinal's Jewish Conspiracy Theory

New York, N.Y., July 25, 2002 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today
expressed outrage at comments made by a Honduran Catholic Cardinal that
implied an alleged Jewish manipulation of the American media. Cardinal
Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga, in a May interview with the
Italian-Catholic publication 30 Giorni, claimed Jews influenced the
media to exploit the current controversy regarding sexual abuse by
Catholic priests in order to divert attention from the
Israeli-Palestinian crisis.

"The Cardinal's odious anti-Jewish conspiracy theory must be immediately
and forcefully condemned by responsible voices in the Catholic Church,"
said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, in a letter sent to
Cardinal Walter Kasper, of the Pontifical Commission for Religious
Relations with
Jews. "We are outraged by Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga's implication
and, as John L. Allen, Jr. states in the July 19th Catholic Reporter,
'the logic of his comments seems clear: Someone in America doesn't
like the pro-Palestinian tilt of the Catholic Church, and used their
media clout to deliver payback. It's not much of a reach to imagine
who Rodriguez might suspect that 'someone' to be"

Cardinal Rodrigues Maradiaga stated: "It gave me considerable food for
thought that, at a time of total media focus on developments in the
Middle East with all the injustices being perpetrated against the Palestinia=
n
people, U.S. television and press people were obsessed with sex scandals
of 30 or 40 years ago."

Item # 3

The article below is one that carries the flavor of the day! Here
you have one of America's most powerfully connected lobby group, the
Council on Foreign Relations, advocating that the US Government
should do what Foxman says they don't - namely manipulate public
perception and publicity on behalf of Israel and, one would argue,
against the interests of America!

US group says Israel is drag on US PR

US group says Israel is drag on US PR
By JANINE ZACHARIA

WASHINGTON - The US must do a better job explaining why it supports
Israel if it wants to improve its image in the Arab world, a new report
issued by the Council on Foreign Relations says.

=46iguring out how to improve America's image abroad has taken on a higher
priority since September 11 as the US pursues its war on terrorism. The
report, completed by an Independent Task Force on Public Diplomacy, says
for public diplomacy to be effective it "must be a central element of
foreign policy." (...)

Israel, it says, is a "prime example of an unpopular policy that the US
should not change merely to curry favor or world audiences. Washington,
however, must do better in explaining the motivations behind its
policies."

"Without casting itself as Israel's special champion, messages should
point out that the United States is a democratic country, and that US
policy toward Israel and on other issues is heavily influenced by the
views of Congress, powerful interest groups, the press, and public
opinion generally," the report says.

It makes seven specific recommendations on how to market US policy toward
Israel including: stressing widespread sympathy for preservation of state
of Israel and its security; highlighting decisions by Egypt and Jordan to
establish ties; and emphasizing "that the United States is committed to
the survival of Israel, while also trying to curb the widespread
impression that the United States unconditionally supports Israeli
policies." (...)
