Holly Maddux Initiative

Holly at Fire Island

For many years we were preoccupied with learning to live with the loss of Holly. Now we are all actively working to educate our communities about the cycle of domestic violence that took Holly from us.

In 1998, Mary Maddux discovered that the Elizabeth Freeman Center in nearby Berkshire County, Massachusetts, offered a variety of services for victims of family violence. She approached them with an offer of help as a way to work through her own grief and a means of creating a living memorial to Holly.

From this association was born The Holly Maddux Initiative which included a bumper sticker campaign, a public service announcement with music written and performed by Mary, and the sale of a Limited Edition print of a piece of Holly's artwork as a fundraiser for the center.

Please contact the EFC at (413) 499-2425
for further information on acquiring a Limited Edition print.

Also in 1998 Buffy was asked to become a member of the Board of Directors for the Tarrant County Women's Haven in Fort Worth, Texas. Since then a collection of Holly's art has been printed onto note cards for sale as a fundraiser. Note cards are available at cost to any Domestic Violence shelter to use for fundraising purposes.
