News groups relating to the DNS

comp.protocols.tcp-ip.domains has always been the primary news group relating to the DNS. This group was some years ago supposed to be replaced with the comp.protocols.dns.ops newsgroup but it is still going strong.

comp.protocols.dns.bind carries moderated discussion on Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND), the most common name server server software. It is bidirectionally gatewayed to the bind-users mailing list.

comp.protocols.dns.std is for moderated discussion of DNS standards activities. It is bidirectionally gatewayed to the namedroppers mailing list.

comp.protocols.dns.ops is supposed to be for moderated discussion of DNS operations, but see comp.protocols.tcp-ip.domains for a more lively group. There is an FAQ.

comp.protocols.tcp-ip is a more general group relating to TCP/IP. Issues on this group relating to the DNS have been understandably related to protocol issues, for instance UDP packet sizes for DNS queries.

In addition, vendor-specific groups may be appropriate places to discuss specific vendor implementations of DNS clients or servers. An example is microsoft.public.win2000.dns.
