Thats what I think too...the Foreign Service has too many dolts out in the field, so the honchos give them something to do, go play spy.
It gets them sent home, and both sides get a good laugh out of it.
I can see the Brits and the Ruski's laughing about it over a vodka....

As Jim suggested, why use these clumsy and laughable objects -- both devices
and humans.

Or are these kinds of operations typical of the professionals, and only
fictional prowess is tooted, say as Michael Hayden does for NSA and
the spinners of intel forever leak with glee.

Surely government spies don't flog snake oil like the private sector, and
government TSCM customers are more sophicated than retail rubes.

How do you tell a gov spy from a private one?
