As Jim suggested, why use these clumsy and laughable objects -- both devices
and humans.

Was this a training mission for the young spies while the serious ops were
being conducted more carefully.

Was this a Russian sting of the Brits, again to divert attention from more
stealthy operations.

Or are these kinds of operations typical of the professionals, and only
fictional prowess is tooted, say as Michael Hayden does for NSA and
the spinners of intel forever leak with glee.

Surely government spies don't flog snake oil like the private sector, and
government TSCM customers are more sophicated than retail rubes.

How do you tell a gov spy from a private one?
