Thought you guys would like to know this:
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512
=20
If you receive an email from a Andrew Adams (andrewa..._at_yahoo.com), =
requesting you to do work for a VIP client tracking down pedophiles, and=
the email has multiple "guaranteed prepayment" and pedophiles in bold:
=20
THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO HACK YOUR COMPUTER!!!
=20
Due to the eagle eye of Craig Pittman, he showed me this email. I l=
ooked into it and it is coming of a DC, but after I contacted them, I re=
ceived a canned response from them. I then received the following email=
which sent up EVERY RED FLAG with me.
=20
"Before we proceed you will have to upgrade your email settings. You =
apparently have your email set for ?plain text? display and this is jus=
t too ancient and too inadequate for our purposes."
=20
This is complete BS (sorry), but there is no reason for this person =
to request this at all. By changing from the "plain text", it will allo=
w this person to allow them to install some type of spyware or remote ac=
cess trojan on my computer via email.
=20
As many of you have seen, I recently upgraded to have PGP running on =
all my emails, allowing people to more easily send me encrypted emails =
and to allow anyone to verify that only I am sending them an email. To =
have someone send out a request to work with PI's and a "VIP" client and=
then to say "Oh you have to upgrade your email settings" that folks is =
a SCAM!
=20
I have contacted them back asking for a phone number to call, and th=
en also how I am supposed to "change my ancient text settings" for them.
=20
Please make sure that you do NOT fall for this type of scam either n=
ow on in the future. If you have, call me directly and I will help you =
reset your system and tell you how to scan for viruses and spyware.
=20
PLEASE make sure you let every PI know about this scam! Many of you =
know I have been working the issue of tracking down pedophiles on the i=
nternet, working with LE and developing the tools to do that, and it jus=
t really burns me up that someone would take an issue like this to try a=
nd scam people!
=20
And lastly, if this turns out to be real, and I am completely wrong, =
expect to see me send out an apology.
=20

Thanks
