I remain curious as to this HP matter, and don't particularly
care about the neologistic "pre-texting" part. The reason I remain
curious is that you have a categoric violation of SEC regulations
in that material information for a Fortune 100 company was being
leaked to unauthorized persons by trusted insiders. Clearly, no
one was going to confess, and if HP did not quell those leaks the
inevitable would happen (someone would provably profit from the
insider information, which for US-based firms is the ultimate
no-no). That they had a favorable opinion from Wilson, Sosini,
Goodrich and Rosati is hardly mentioned. That the person leaking
was a political target (head of Progress & Freedom Foundation
and Reagan's Science Advisor) has been made little of, even in
hyper-political California, home of the fruit and the nut.
I don't get it, and this note is probably too off topic to be
called anything other than a rat hole, but all I smell is money
as in "It doesn't matter who is a sleazeball loser, it matters
who has the deepest pockets," which has long been enshrined as
perhaps the single most socialist component of US law.
