Brits left around 1782/83 after the end of the Revolution. There was no
White House until long after the Revolution. In fact, the Capital of the US
at that time was Philadelphia - Washington DC didn't even exist, let alone
the White House.

When they returned it was as an invading army during the War of 1812.
Totally different war all together. They burned the White House during this
war with Pres. Madison and his wife and staff barely escaping. Even so, the
White House was still under construction at the time and only a small part
of it was occupied. The dome hadn't even been constructed at that time.

Just some trivia. I'm a big-time historian; especially military history. In
fact, military research is pretty much what I do - providing records
research for PIs, security firms, film companies, TV/radio news programs,
genealogists, etc. around the country and overseas. I've written on the
topic of military records research and have presented seminars in Vegas and
Palm Springs on it.

Cheers!

Jerry

Ya, but not before they burnt down the White House. Nobody ever seems to
remember that small detail.
