Product Summary
HP continues to bring you the best in open, standardized systems that deliver excellent performance and broad versatility.
NEW! I/O Libraries for Instrument Control
VISA, the Virtual Instrument Software Architecture, joins SICL, HPs
Standard Instrument Control Library to form a complete I/O library for
instrument control. Use SICL for existing applications; use VISA for
new VXIplug&play-compliant applications. VISA, like SICL, gives
you easy portability across platforms.

Product Features
SICL and VISA: I/O Libraries for Instrument Control
SICL, HP’s Standard Instrument Control Library is now joined by VISA, the new Virtual Instrument Software Architecture. VISA, which has features and functions similar to SICL, is the result of the I/O library specifications developed by the VXIplug&play Alliance. VISA will be included with most products that include SICL software. Initially, however, these products will include the VISA Transition Library (VTL), which is a subset of VISA. The new I/O library with both SICL and VISA works with any VXIplug&play-compatible equipment. You can continue to use your SICL applications and add VISA as needed for new applications. Both SICL and VISA are supported by HP.
Migration to VXIplug&play Drivers
With the development of VXIplug&play standards, HP is moving the C-SCPI and I-SCPI technology into our VXIplug&play drivers. We encourage you to move to this new technology.
Because it may be inconvenient for you to make this move in the short term, HP will add HP-UX 10.x support for existing C-SCPI software in 1996. We will not produce new C-SCPI drivers for new VXI modules, so as you add new VXIplug&play instruments to your system, you should use the associated VXIplug&play driver.
For I-SCPI users, we are adding Windows 95* I-SCPI support for the RADEPC7A/8A embedded controllers and VXLink ISA/VXI interface, as well as HP-UX 10.x support for the V743 embedded controller. This support will be available in 1996.

Download Instrument Drivers from Internet
Note: You can use another
HP internet site
to directly
transfer the VXIplug&play instrument drivers for VXI products listed
in this VXI product section. The advantage to this method is that
you will receive the updated instrument drivers immediately.
Download the README
file in each directory for more information. This main directory includes
instrument driver files
. The instrument driver file names end with ".id"
