Thanks a lot for bringing back a lot of memories. I have been a long time lurker and learner almost from the beginning. I got hard copies of Orc's tutorials around 1996 and shortly afterwards found about Fravia's site and I've been an avid follower ever since. I just haven't ever really wanted to publish anything, just learning from others.

Thanks to everyone for the eye-opener that Orc (+Orc) started and Fravia upheld all those years and which escalated like an avalanche to the "reversing scene".

I just still would like to know what happened/who is +ORC. I've seen Fravia live so his identity isn't much of a mystery any longer.

Just kind of wonder is it's relevant to mention the somewhat protracted and highly emotional discussion regarding the off-shoot, (not really but in spirit), of the "strictly newbie forum", personally I consider it's premature demise, a loss to the community - of course more open minded and perfectly capable groups stepped up to the plate and continue to offer a great place for the curious and ambitious newbie to go.

Not only that, it's hardly complete or correct. I'd point at that document (purloined from the textfiles (www.textfiles.com) archive) as a good example of how not to learn the history of any scene; warez, demo, reversing or otherwise.

It's a good memory. I began to learn cracking/reversing by reading all the papers on Fravia's site in 1997 when I was a college student. Now ten years passed and we are getting elder and elder It must be very hard to keep this forum alive.

Talk for yourself Solomon, during the last 10 years I've been growing younger, bolder, stupidier and even more immature. . .

Actually, sometimes it's harder to just keep ourselves alive.

Especially for those of us who graduated from college 29 years before Solomon did.

I was already a Senior in High School when John Kennedy was shot and killed in 1963 and a Senior in College when Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were shot and killed in 1968. The war people were complaining about was called "Viet Nam" and the "personal computer" available to the average individual was still nearly 20 years away and sold for prices which would make the average person gasp today. But we call this "progress."

This is my 1st post.I used to study fravia's site a lot some years ago. I examided many essays and helped me to reverse myself some programs that existed solely in my country.
I have 2 boxes full of hard copies of disassembled programs.

@disavowed: are you the guy who used to run the disavowed.net challenges site? It was very good - and i had managed to pass some levels myself. I was very sorry when it stopped.

I couldn't attend (was too young and a student), but i was in contact with some of the people that went there..

I remember being all excited when new papers/tutorials were published..
