Hi all,
The newest version of RACEVB6, a freeware VB6 PCode analyzer, can be found at the RACEVB6.COM site.
The update is to version 3.7. The new stuff is:
Improved declaration delineation and unused API detection
Updated/corrected many opcodes
Added new opcodes
Added intrinsic control methods-by-name
Updated EventCount display for external libraries
(This post may be moved or deleted as fits the policies of this board)
Thanks

Found a minor bug in 3.7. Please discard it and download version 3.8.
Thanks

Yes, I am well aware of that, thanks.
In fact, I have one of the original versions, registered to me, that was graciously presented to me, free of charge, for my contributions to his effort.
(Sarge modestly points out that he IS listed in the credits).
Now, if only he would send me a full version!!
Thanks

Thank you,
But i think it is hard to find visual basic compiled programs nowdays with .NET out there (it is like a virus, spreads and slowdown computers).
Maybe i am unlucky

I will forward this to a friend that i'm sure he will like it very much.

It depends on what types of programs you usually reverse, since the demographic of VB "programmer"s are quite distinct, and the stigma of any *basic language tends to keep them distinct; nonetheless p-code VB6 is even rarer than native VB6.

.NET is too new to have a large installed base. Programs using it are being developed now, which means the source knowledge is available now. VB6 has thousands (tens-of-thousands?) of legacy programs out there, and has had that for a very long time. Some small percentage of them WILL be pcode. I guarantee that source knowledge for those programs is not available any longer. Programs like RACEVB6, as well as many others like VBRezQ, VBDecompiler, VBReformer, etc, can go a long way toward easing any pain that comes from, for example, whatever issues arises when using old, legacy programs on newer platforms. As far as I know, RACEVB6 is the only one that provides it's specific kind of pcode information.
Hope your friend enjoys it.

with tools like .NET Reflector available, i'm surprised you're complaining

He's not complaining about the ease of .NET reversing (neither would I be), he's complaining about the questionable efficiency and practice of using what is essentially a semi-interpreted proprietary VM language.
