Hello i'm a complete newbie & i have had ollydbg for about 3 weeks. This morning i wake up to find AVG has deleted the olly exe & a zip file too. It claims that it is a virus called Obfustat.SS. Has anyone esle had this? Also i downloaded a fresh one from http://www.ollydbg.de/ & that came up as a virus too. Help anyone?

p.s sorry if this is in the wrong place.

According to virustotal, AVG is the only one to find a virus inside ollydbg.exe file. It's a false positive...

well it migh be flase positive in avg scans

a simle google for obfustat yields many results like yours

from avg forum

some gamers find avg calling it virus

so may be you should try other avs or
scan your zip or exe with other avs
and instruct avg not to delete this file

CAVEAT

the above information is provided as is and not a full and final solution may be your computer has a worm that infects files may be not
may be avg sucks may be not

you can try downloading ollydbg from our mirror (ollystuph) page and give it a try as well (it was infection free last time i checked it )

I got the same thing, but even a version that's a few years old and hidden deep inside a zip file was flagged. I guess it's just a false positive

Thanks for the responces, I've tried getting AVG to ignore it which seemed to work till I tried to run olly again now I get a message saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item."

Also tried to get olly from here http://woodmann.cjb.net/ollydbg/index.htm & this still gets flagged as a virus.

Ok, why are you still using that AVG , Why not try another high rank anitivirus like kasperky, symantec etc. with update database and check it.

First, confirm that your PC is clean.
Second, download again and check it with a better anti-virus. Trust (90%)kasperky,symantec and Shift+Del AVG.

AVG is only better than nothing from my past experience with virus infected PC

Just thought I'd mention AVG now doesn't see olly as a virus new definitions must have solved the problem. btw I use AVG because it's free, Thank you for all responses.
