One of the users on Exetools Posted a reference to VirtualBox v1.5.0, open source and under a GNU Public license.

Currently under development and operating on:

I tried version 1.4 a few months ago after reading a review in some pc magazine comparing it to Virtual PC and VMWare. The windows version was buggy as hell.

The latest Xen (august 2007) is a lot better and open source too. They have been bought by Citrix recently.
It is not really aimed at "personal usage" though. It's not worth it to set it up for running only one VM.

BTW: Check the source of VirtualBox, they contain very usefull code for various reverse engineering topics like disassembly, memory managment, debugging and so on.

I also use it for project of mine.
