I have spent 3 years on this scene. And I'm (STILL) not even intermidiate cracker. I need mentorship from someone senior to get any further. Any senior willing to assist me? Communication would be ONLY through email.

Furthermore, I am not from an TECHNICAL background, so I may be a little hard nut to teach. However, I am willing to put in efforts that may be required to do this.

I have only my own managed to crack only 4programs so far:

Quake 2 - CD Check
Freespace 1 - CD Check + Cheat Progression check
Road Rash - Ability to load MODIFIED .rsh files
FL.exe - Synchronization (DOS) proggie.

My aim is more towards someone who can guide me on the programs that I may need to crack. In a progressive manner. What with complicated schemes coming up, I haven't a clue to what to crack. Crackmes and reversemes are well, not my cup of tea. I need hands on.

You may decide not to help, but thanks anyways for reading this mail. I AM getting help from this msgboard really, and I guess I should'nt complain, but I just had to try my luck.

Consider joining in the newbies forum, where various targets are attacked as a group effort. This seems to be quite popular for newbies.

I dont believe anyone needs a mentor to learn more about cracking, especially with such good web resources around. Even the more advanced aspects can be learnt by anyone willing to put in the time. You might wish to read the #c4n FAQ #12 (www.cracking4newbies.com).

Dont forget, a mentor via email goes against the grain of the community. Instead of everyone being able to learn/participate from a forum thread, it is restricted to merely two people.

Hiya aimless and Merry Xmas.
Carp is right once again, the newbies forum/groups are a very good way of learning.There you share your experience with others and everybody learns. I did learn a lot while hanging at the newbie's forum and following the different targets.
I cannot offer you a 24-7 'mentorship' (not even via email) since my spare time is VERY VERY limited during the week ..(i haven't updated my site in months..not to talk about cracking/coding) and usually im playing with 200 things at the same time..coding,cracking,dongles,palm..so i get to play a little bit with each other just on weekends. Anyway, if you want to learn and be a good cracker i think i can give you some good pointers and could be a good mentor too.

Heheh, I've been into cracking for about 3 months and I know as much as you Cracked Age of Empires, Rise of Rome, Age of Kings, Age of Conquerors, WinZip, NotePad, like a million crackme's, etc.

if i understand you right, you're just looking for actual programs to crack. try anything like www.download.com, and just download a dozen random programs and try cracking them. perfect real-world examples

The key is to get those l33t0 mind
enhancing drugs which make a master cracker.

Actually if you do the exercises on the board,
and go to sandman's page, you can learn much.

The key to cracking is **understanding**, not just
following the steps provided in tutorials.

Everybody putted his word on this, and to me this is one of the most important question someone can ask on this place.
Nolan blender is right about it : understand what you're doing.
How ? If you try to reverse something, you'll have a very good understanding if you already know of to code programs, personnaly I started to code since 1 year and half, about one year after my first
cracked app.
Just read the most essays as you can, start with serial based apps,
locate them in mem, follow them, trace the app, feel it and understand
what's happening, invert the tests, look if this is working, take some notes. I just had to follow from the beginning to the end about 10 essays on fravia's site to be on my own, this will be your private work.
Then ask your questions on this place, somebody will always answer positively, as you saw before.
