View Full Version : Paying my respect to +Fravia

It was somewhere in 1999. Fravia was visiting Belgium, the country I live in, and he would attend a reversers meeting in Brussels. I was 18 years old at the time, and had just gotten into the whole reversing thing.
Fravia's site on reversing was thé site on the subject at the time. Almost everything I learned, I learned from there... from him. Tho a bit eccentric, I admired his skill, intelligence and criticism. So when I heard about a meeting in Brussels I was very eager to join the party.
It was a delight to be able to have some conversation with Fravia that day in Brussels. A very bright, wise and intriguing man he was, and I'm greatful for what he did for the reversing community and later on with Searchlores.org
I was kind of shocked and saddened when I just learned of his passing. I knew he had a tumor, but didn't expect it would all go that fast.
Anyway, what I want to say is: respect to +Fravia and everything he did. He was really one of a kind.
Kind regards,
The Blackbird
Ps: I've just discovered that mr. Woodmann keeps a copy of my beginner cracker site I maintained back in 1999. You can read the report of the meeting in Brussels there! http://www.woodmann.com/RCE-CD-SITES/Cracking_4_newbies/index.html

i guess i am one of post-fravia era. i started reverse engineering around few years ago, but first time i heard about fravia was the message that he died. and even if i even didnt knew of existence of the man it still made me very sad that such a bright mind of our kind is not with us any more.

BlackB !!!!
Thank you so much for the visit. 'tis always nice when a "legend" from the old days types some words.
Ten years and still going strong on the foundations that all of YOU first ones built.

You're welcome

Keep up this great work you and all others 've been doing.
I got a VM with Win XP and some tools up and running since the past few days, so maybe... just maybe... I might contribute a bit to the big pile of knowledge here. My reversing knowledge has gotten somewhat rusty tho after 10 years.
I had been working in the IT-industry for a few years. Last year I got tired of it, quit my job and decided to get back to studying: Political Sciences at some university. Something totally different, and I love it. I (almost) finished my first year now. Basically it's reality reversing, so it shouldn't be thát surprising
Anyway, I'm going to stick around for a while, without exactly knowing what that could mean...
Regards,
B.
Ps: And yes, I promise that I have read the FAQ and will use the search functionality (or better: Google) to get my questions answered :P

I only wish I could count the same expierences as you guys..long will this 'man' be mourned his thoughts passed on and given time to develop and change with the times..
I say this with true tears in my eyes and a soft pain in my soul..there is no greater accomplishment one could attain unless by reaching the heights of knowledge and understanding of the world around you, that this man did not set out to do, but most certainly accomplished in the small spanning of years he was allotted.. as ive heard 'some' say 'dying is easy, living is the worthwhile part".
but as hopefully some of you 'know' we 'are' all "following" the teachings of Fravia+ still. For there are those who will read and though they will not totally understand 'everything',there are then those that are willing to piece it together, and hopefully that will be..
I just wanted to say something in this cause Fravia has more then gained my most ascertain 'unshakable' respect just in my "readings"... sorry to pop in on the warm greeting like this..
welcome TheBlackBird!! I have read but a few posts from you but they where excellent I hope to see you back here again..!!
Kind regards

wow, it's been awhile for me here, off doing some cheeky thing. I remember learning from fravia with his searchlores and such and from others who deserve mention here; Tsehp, Sojourner, Indian1998, SiONiDE, Punisher, Sandmann, Mammon, Splaj and of course the owl. I've learned many a trick from these fine reversers and having my tuts edited by them before being published was always gratifying. I feel saddened by his passing but will never forget his legacy. I use these reverse methods to this very day and someday earn the +!

I know I read this a long time ago, but still get sad reading it. RIP Fravia+.
Also it saddens me that the copyright maffia is so strong that there is no disclosure even after death.
I would have liked to read about Fravias and ORCs lives.
They deserve to be remembered not just by their nick but as the persons they were.
