recently I was contacted by a 'new' member of woodmann forums asking me for help with cracking a symbian application. This person "said" they where blind and as I hold all people afflicted with similar maladies in the highest regard, I was wondering if anyone could 'help' him/her? the name of this new member is cyblind..any comments on what should be done?

here is what cyblind sent..if that helps..

Problem in RCE (I'm Blind)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi my friend,
I'm a blind having problem in symbian cracking, I want to crack this very helpful app for blind called KNFB Mobile Reader, I tried to follow some cracking tutorial even i'm blind but i failed.
Maybe you know someone who's good in symbian cracking that can guide me or where i need to go regarding to my problem, please help me! give me some advice, I will wait for your reply. Thanks!

(I'm using text-to-speech software on my pc that's why i can browse sites, read emails, use pc, etc. even i'm blind)

obviously this person knows 'some' english..and likes to mention that he/she is blind..and they 'might' know I have a soft spot for people so afflicted..which is intriguing and strange at the same time..but I dont know what to do...any help or guidance in any of the above areas would be greatly appreciated...

Weell.., in searching for the user name, as well as this members registration email, he/she has on occasion asked for cracks to visual aid software as far back as 2006.

So as far as that indicates, yes this person is probably visually impaired, or at least knows someone who is.

Obviously we can't deal with a crack request directly here. My suggestion would be to refer them to the Symbian tutorials by argv at Arteam. i.e. Primer on Reverse Engineering Symbian or any of the many others of that ilk.

I'm not sure if learning to crack is even a possibility for this person, depending on how severe the visual challenge is. Reading a tut with text to speech software is one thing, debugging another.

Do as your heart guides you, all I wanted to say was that indications are that the visual impairment is real, at least to somebody, and you're not simply being scammed.

thanks for the verification..
hard to talk to someone you think might be 'scamming' you or have a alterior motive..but the stuff by argv looks to be a good place to start...hopefully this person knows 'something' more about debugging and navigating the interface of one..

I remember a guy at the RCE.net board about 2 years ago who had been really blind and was able to work and reverse with Olly until a specific level.

He really had the asm code you can see in his head for easier tasks.

Stop your doubts my friends, i'm a real blind!
if you want i will show you my disability ID card here in my country and my certification of computer training for blind using JAWS screen reader that's why i can use a computer, browse the internet and manage some programs in windows even the IDA pro disassembler but in minimal ways only because i'm lower than a beginner in RCE.

I tried that symbian tutorials by argv but i failed, most of his tutorials are in video format and others have images to follow, what can a blind like me do to those videos and images??? i contacted argv many times to ask for a help but he just ignored me, he even block my messages, how sad for a good in symbian RCE.

Thanks BanMe for giving attention to my problem, i owe you one.

you owe me nothing..

I am no 'specialist' in reversing and even less so with symbian, but I am capable of making inaccessible materials, accessible..so I am going to try to make argv's tutorials 'more' accessible..I will probably need you, to verify my work..but I will also be able to check it with Jaws from my own comp.. may I inquire which version of Jaws you are using?

I'm happy to cooperate, jaws 10.0 is the one i'm using.

Great now which tutorial should I make accessible first?
maybe a list of all the tutorials you would like 'written' out with the most important ones at the top, would be the best way to go about it..

Maybe it's better to start with MobiFun RemindMe*and Titan Spereeo Voice Translator because this apps have IMEI based protection like the app that i want to reverse.

But you know much better which to start, it's only my conclusion.

Do not think I have abandoned you

I have not, just been busy with some projects..

I watched the argv tutorial for Titan sprereero voice translator...and this is going to require some custom automation tools to help you in this venture..(im going to need to know what tools already use, and there capabilities..also I am going to have to teach myself IDA..as that is not my debugger of choice as you know...) I was unable to acquire the tutorial for MobiFun RemindMe..so if you have that tutorial please contact me on msn and send it to me..

I am thinking AutoIt as the automation language or C++ or a combination of them..

much reading and understanding is needed to be done by me to help you in this,so please start giving us clues to where you are having problems...or else,I will have to guess..and I dont like guessing..

p.s. I know Jaws 10(somewhat) and ida(very little) are the tools you use, but what other tools do you use to help you automate things..
