Hi,

My laptop crashed recently. I was using a program that used flexlm for its license manager. I reinstalled this program on a new computer, but I couldn't get the old license to work with it (I have a backup of the .lic file). Is there a way to still use this license? I can't get it generated from the vendor anymore.

Any help would be appreciated.

You obviously haven't read the FAQ since you break rule No.1
Nevertheless, the best answer to your question is: learn how to defeat Flexlm and you're done. That might be the only solution because nobody will do it for you in this place. If you have questions while learning you're very welcome to ask again.
Here is a link to start with:

Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I did read the FAQ, and while my question was quite broad, it wasn't asked with rule no. 1 in mind.

Flexlm 11 works on HDD signatures and MAC numbers and oh my!

So your BEST bet is to talk to the organization that created this software for a valid license.

ELSE...

You may have to learn how to crack (no, not flexlm, normal programs) and maybe in 2-3 years time you can be ready to break into Flexlm.

Having said that, you may want to peruse the rich repository at Crackz (link below this board) and see if you can figure out how to beat Flexlm.

A word of caution -- Flexlm 11 messes at a LOW level with your HDD also. Formatting the entire HDD will STILL, in some cases, NOT allow you to remove that protection (surprise!!)

So, try all that nonsense on a VM. And if your app detects VM, you're positively in a mess... So the ONLY way then is to crack.

Also, ALL of us here have downloaded and cracked many, many applications. Simply say you want to crack a particular software, tell us what you have done about it (I mean, in the cracking sense) and where you are getting stuck. There is no need here to "legimatize" your need for a crack -- like if the app is protected with Flexlm 11 (very recent version) and the company can no longer provide licenses -- either the company is crap, your re-license costs more money OR as mentioned you are trying to "not make it sound like a crack request"

A crack request will do nothing but give you a show of no-responses from the members here. A show of effort (no matter however misguided) will tell us you at least give us credit for *some* intelligence and we are all ready to help.

Aimless,

Thank you for explaining in more detail, the etiquette of this forum.

I guess I wanted to know if there was a quick way to transfer a license to another computer.
I remember I did this with a program (Cadence PSpice) a couple of years ago. It was merely a matter of changing my HDD's serial number to fit with the one in the license, and that was it. I don't remember what version of flexlm it was, but it gave me the impression since then, that flexlm isn't be a big deal to circumvent. I guess times have changed.

Hi FoxB,

I didn't see your reply. What file, is the vendor daemon?

for example: FEATURE standard ABAQUSLM 6.300 permanent 99 .....
ABAQUSLM is name of the vendor daemon file ABAQUSLM.exe

Hi guys,

I´m studying hard RE for 2 months now, and the follow comment bring my attention:

My main goal when started my studies, is to reverse graphics software, and a lot of they are protected with flexlm.

I know that it wont be a easy task, but will really take 2 to 3 years to get proficient and break hard protections as flexlm?

While I do not have the expertise to reverse flexlm, its feasible to just circumvent flexlm checks on protected softwares?

Thanks

I really don't want to fuck up the black magic and mystique regarding FlexLM - but it aint that difficult if you research here, you might find it easier than you thought - patching wise, for later versions it's pretty much impossible to generate a working license - unless you get your hands on the SPECIFIC SDK.

This thread is actually quite helpful. Both "site behavior" and guidance for a particular question is provided.

Thanks for both.

Listen and learn.
