my device only supports 1.5 of droid and kobo kernel 2.6 or w.e

so I would have to build and test in that environment and make a avd for it, thanks be it to the maker of my device they released a barebones os image .. :]

so..

My idea..I saw it on oprah and various other places now..people using sound to echo locate themselves and 'hear objects around you..a sonar app with 'pathing and modeling' and audible queue's.
I mean it sounds like a app of interest.. but I am lacking in my skills as android developer, any seasoned reverser of life have any thoughts..?

I'd guess that the speakers and mics in most phones have too low quality for this.

I'd also guess that you must have stereo mics (separated in space?) combined with orientation-detection (possibly doable in some phone models) to get some useful results.

Well that is a good point, getting the hardware necessary to implement such a feature. So in order to figure what would be "necessary" I would first research ,what sound travel clearest through a 15 foot area, what speakers are able detect the bounceback of sound, then
I would use a camera as a comparitive view and to provide amore accurate template of surroundings.

But maturing the idea is all that I'm after. For now.
Thank you for your input.

What's the end goal? If the purpose is to help people "see" in the dark, why not just make a flashlight-app?

helping people 'see' in the dark with a flashlight is a good idea. but what do you do for the people that cannot see the light. Do you then hand them the flashlight and say continue on? Or do you look to them to provide what they 'need' to get around? I went with the latter..( I also have subjective material to work with..xD) Also the term 'The end goal' that bothers me...there is no end goal its a game that continues on and builds onto itself, ever changing and ever growing.maybe the end goal is to have this app run by a phone drive a truck.. that could be one of the 'logical ends' to this..But the 'means' and the knowledge involved in achieving those means is what I would like to discuss in a off-topic way

and hmm a idea as a 'solution to' 'reciever and audible queus in one hit me..(I hope I dont get yelled at..)A hearing aid would suffice.. as a receptor and provide the means to give the 'tactical prompts' represented by the data.I got the mentality to where if i have to accomplish something, try to build upon the bones of the past..so..off I have already gone seriously researching this. any input or possible 'caveats' that you can think of and or possible solutions to those caveats from a theorethical and maybe 'practical' standpoint..im pretty sure i can get the hearing aids..integrating them into a circuit with a 'communications' module I am not good at but I know how to sauder..and understand a small amount of electrical work.. so much to learn so little time...

..the after thoughts of batman?

Howdy,

In case some of you are wondering, BanMe works closely with a person
who is vision impaired AKA blind.

I am more of a hardware guy so anything I can do I will.
