So this morning I woke up to the tsunami videos/earth quake coverage totally without regard to the 'vast loss' of life..This beyond all of 'that', really perplexes me.. The human 'feeling' is not there..Why is that? All this technical data is bs, meant to distract the 'minds' from the 'loss of continuity'...I think it is sad that we have lost our finest quality; our own sense of 'not just ourselves, but of others' and it seems to me 'this thought' only hits after the 'effect' of tragedy...Is this similar to HEAD of CIA/FBI(I forget) saying "We need another 9/11..to really 'push' the topic"

This leads to another question..
Does the 'heart' protect itself with the distractions of the 'mind'? Or Is the mind distracted by feelings of the 'heart'?

Perhaps it is simply a reflection of the "fact" that the "physical damages" are already clearly apparent and the "human damages" are still in the "discovery" stage.

One can see the waves coming ashore and the cars and buildings swept away, but it is not yet clear how many people where "actually" caught in the disaster, although the estimates have been of significant numbers. It will be some time before the human toll is actually known with any reliable accuracy.

But I think it shouldn't matter whether it is 1 or 1 hundred million..Discovering the 'effect of loss' is pain, shouldn't be a factor involved in the consumption of news... :}

I then dissected my own thought process just to pinpoint what I thought was wrong.. (I guess that's a 'common' factor)o0 analyzing, quantifying,comparing, so forth..

So I decided to think of what I thought was missing from the news..The only thing I could come up with was 'emotion other then happiness'. I mean where is the pain, where is that lone tear that is begging to become a torrent, where is the truly human part that is missing. Why does it always take some radical person to film about it, why does it take asking the hard questions to really get at that part of us..

I know if I talk more, I will only end mad at the news stations for dehumanizing themselves and projecting that out onto the world...

Most of the people feel concerned because of the possible nuclear threat and I'm sure that almost everybody feels empathy for the Japanese nation (who wouldn't). But the sad truth is that you only skip tech details and 'wow' news when you loose someone...
And it's even harder when you never experience the loss of someone very close before.

Anyway, there is a lot of ways to help through donations and volunteering.

I am concerned about the 'world' in general..and sadly I've lost many friends, and family and have experienced loss..that is why I shut myself out of the world for so long..

I would go volunteer, but I don't know of 'any' way to get there.. Now the government says to evacuate, and this Libya thing is starting to grate on my nerves..WE NEED TO HELP THEM, and not expect anything from it, other then the helping hand if and when we need it..

The times are rough and yet we need to 'continue' on regardless of the detractors..(pick those teams in the NCAA) Either that,or curl up in a fetal position and 'give up'..That isn't who we are(I hope),and certainly demonstrates what we stand for to the world( as 1 we stand together to battle the troubles we all face.. )

But then 'some' expect us not to continue onward in what 'is' life.. If there isn't 'fun' or a lightening of the mood in the face of certain darkness, then under any circumstance the battle is already lost to the human part of us.

The 'pain' deepens with each passing moment I watch this tragedy unfold..If you can't tell tears run down my face for the stories and for the 'honorable deaths' of those that would take a certain death sentence to protect the ones they love(the engineers and nuclear physicists volunteering) ..I will honor 'them' and the sacrifices they make forever.

I would like to just reiterate something that was taught to me by the source of this board...'JUST GIVE', Give of yourself and of what you have in anyway you can and don't expect anything but a warm fuzzy feeling of knowing what you do is right and helpful...

I agree JMI these people need all the help they can get against this maniac...He has lost his grip and will stop at nothing to gain it back including killing his own people..

Hopefully the U.N.'s "No Fly Zone" will help end the loss of civilian lives somewhat. Eventually, it's going to take someone's "boots on the ground" to fully end the war and killing.

England and France are ready to do air strikes.
Russia and China have chosen to remain out of it.

As for Japan, the USA have already dispatched resources.
They have sent special aircraft to monitor radiation
levels and there are ships arriving with special
"coolant" to help quell the potential of a meltdown.

They have ships off the coast of Japan waiting
to safely enter port.
