Hi,

Why is it when I search for "IDA" or "IDA Pro", it says: "sorry - no matches..."

Try more search syntax like "IDA Pro book" or arguments etc...

It's because the forum Mysql Fulltext search is limited to 4-character or greater words by default. This can be changed at the server level - perhaps I'll test setting it to search for 3 letter words when I have a chance and see how much of a performance hit that causes.

I tried quoted combinations such as "IDA " or "IDA*", but that doesn't fool the mysql search engine to retrieve 3 letter words either.

That's really a good magic trick esther, but it's only smoke and mirrors since that search is picking up "book" and ignoring "ida".

The best bet is probably to use the .CHM file archive of the forum (link below). It only gets updated once a year when someone kicks my ass, but will readily find 3 letter words.

There's nothing wrong with your 'best knowledge' esther.
Actually, there are several hundred, sometimes over a thousand, downloads of the CHM file per month. Frankly I can't understand it either, but there you go
It's the reason I keep making it. I use it occasionally just for the more accurate search capability.

well... it is annoying on most 'local' searches, so i usually 'bypass' the problem with google:
site:woodmann.com "IDA Pro"

... or ask for a 'google custom search box' in vbullettin

Well esther, I do just that almost every year and mostly because of the search function, which gives IMHO in most cases more hits than when using the online search.
Another reason is also the ability to use it without necessarily having to be online, especially when you are at remote areas with very limited access to the internet.
