I had to reinstall XP after I could not log into XP.

Before doing so, I copied the c: drive to another drive in order to try to recover some files and programs that weren't backed up.

I tried copying the program and any known directories it uses.

When I started it, this message came up.

The O.S. is not presently configured to run this application.

The program was pre-installed and there is no install disk.

I am looking for suggestions on what to try.

I'd recommend reverse engineering it to determine the cause of the error.

I used a dependency program and opened Win*ord.exe, it said there were some missing dlls along with a lot of other information.

I think part of the problem is lack of the correct registry entries that the program looks for on startup.

I never thought about making a copy of the old registry so I could study it.

Could you give me some starting tips for this ?

You should have cloned/imaged the drive.
You might be able to recover the files if you have a horseshoe
up your ass and the right software for recovery.

It will be time intensive and will require multiple softwares to
find the right one to recover the files.



If you copied the entire drive you have a much better chance.

If that doesnt work......
you will need to do what disa said, take a look to see what the prog is looking for.

Sometimes the most "obvious" solutions are the ones that are overlooked. If you try "repairing Office 2010 on windows XP" in Google you will find alot of posts and youtube videos with instructions on how to do it.

Office 2010 only runs on Windows XP SP3, but you said you had it on your computer.

Here's one of the suggestions, from:

Not sure this is for your version, but you can check it out, or you can read some of the other links you will find with the "search" I suggested.

Please don't quote the entire post you're replying to unless it's pertinent, it just makes it difficult to read. You were asked that in a previous thread and another moderator had to clean up your posts, and now two of us have had to do it with this one.

You're likely pooched getting MSO working again with the probably 100's of registry entries, let alone file dependancies MS loves to use. Is this one of those stupid preinstalled limited versions that comes with the prepackaged OS'es that come on most boxed computers now, that you can only reinstall with a recovery disk?

Your best bet would probably to use Process Monitor (Sysinternals/MS) on a similar system, save the log file and then try to recreate the registry/file dependancies one by one. If you can't find another system to duplicate the program startup dependancies, you'll have to do the same thing but without that help, but again using Process Monitor.

And we've not even started on dependencies of MS Office 2010 on .NET and VC++ runtimes and all those items.

There is NO way to get an office 2010 program working again, except by re-installation. And online activation (unless you know how to bypass that) -- EXCEPT, if you had IMAGED the HDD, as Woodmann has stated so effectively.

Basically, in one word, you're fcuked!

Let no one tell you otherwise.

Get a boot legged copy from the web, run an activator, and live in peace.

I seem to get a feeling that most of your posts are "help me with this and that" rather than "how to reverse engineer this or that" - a subtle difference. It's almost as if you are using this board as a helpdesk, rather than a RCE repository of knowledge - another subtle difference.
