Can anyone recommend a favorite advanced computer architecture book? Preferably one that is in print and available on the net.

My Intel 8086 manual is getting a little dated...

Thanks,

Hi.

Well i don't know, if this book is for advanced readers, but maybe u can check it out in your local book store.
I have the German version, but i guess it will be like the same in English:

"Computer Architecture - Structures and Concepts" by Andrew S. Tanenbaum / James Goodman.

It covers the hitory of computer architecture, computer-system organisation, the plain of digital logic, of microarchitecture, of the operating-system-machine, of the assembly language and the architecture of parallel computers.

I had to buy the Tanenbaum book for school. I learned a lot, but I can assure you that there are lots of complex stuff in there :-)
I understand these things now because I had to study it for my exams, but when you just buy the book to read just before going to bed, it will be hard sometimes :-)

ah well, it's a very good book, very well explained. take your time and learn

Also try "Structured Computer Organisation", again by Tanenbaum. I imagine theres some of crossover between the two books, so check the on amazon before you buy.
