1. Has anyone read Barry Kauler's book Windows Assembly Language & Systems Programming : 16- And 32-Bit Low-Level Programming for the PC and Windows? I'm thinking about forking out the $$$ but wanted some feedback first. Are there any better books out there (this one was written in 1997)?

2. Has anyone tried ShADe and CodeFumbler's Ultra Ide-asM visual IDE that uses Ultra-Edit for creating programs in Win32 assembler?

Barry kauler is usually recommended, i have not read it tho'.
You can take a peek at the digital version which is all around the web.
About the UE addon, i don't even have UE

BK's book is imho over recommended.

I read the electronic version, and i wasn't very
happy with it.

If you are forking the money, you might as well
spend it on "selected" books from the MindShare series.

They will teach you the AI32 architecture. Then
with whatever left from your book budget, you
can spend it on paper, to print out Iczelion's
tutorials, and some chapters from the Pietrek book.

If there is still some money left out, i would get
the latest edition of Barry Brey's kitchen-sink-intel-doc-book.
Which is a good alternative to the 3 intel PDFs combined.

I have the book and I think it's crap. Iczillions tutes would leave it in the dust.

The addon from shades for ultra ed is also crap (at least with win 2000) as it doesn't work.

I have the PDF version of Matt P's book on PE format which is pretty fine IMO. I was just looking for a good asm book.

i have that book too.
electronic version.
a friend of mine shared me the book (the real one this time , heavy and paper powered and i have to say that it is not that good.
of course you learn stuffs from it, but i don't recommend it.
matt's Programming secrets is way better, and for asm, you shud read icz's tuts as ppl said.
i'd not buy the book by kauler, but get the electronic version only.
this is just my humble opinion.
