Hi.

There is this site www.netlibrary.com that allows you to download their software and actually download ebooks from their site. The thing is... only a certain amount of ppl can have a book 'checked' out at a time and shit like that. It does all this service authencation crap before you can actually view the book

I tried to reverse this little project a while ago... but to no avail... to make the program not care about the server... and just open the book and read it... then it would be AWESEME! But... sadly... I got sidetracked and forgot about it until now...

Anyway... the selection is very limited on that site unless you can go thru a university which licenses tons of ebooks. Maybe i could make a temp account for this board so people can get all the books that my univ. has

Hrmm... I wish I didn't install SP2 fuken microsoft... now I have to fight to get SI working again... O well.... later..

Part of why people are so pissed at adobe is precisely this.

If you read the details of the app, you need to have the 'token' on your machine.

So to decrypt the book back to a 'normal' PDF you need to have bought.

So only the legal owner can actually decrypt it in the first place.

In certain parts of the world it is your leagl right to be able to make a backup of something you have bought.

I see that the e-book password recovery app has been removed from elcomsoft.

So is that why Adobe dropped the case ?

The app was put to the main page for download tsehp.cjb.net
If adobe + dmca have this level of democracy sense, the internet will never ease their totalitarist though, I just can't believe that in this country a guy could be jailed so easily.

lets spread the app, with cracked exe please (can't do on the site for legal purposes )

regards,

You'd be surprised at the number of idiotic laws that survive in the US ;-)

Anyone know details of the system? I.e. from the short description above, it sounds like the "token" is a key to decrypt the book. In the past, Adobe's protection has been 40-bit, which is eminently crackable. I heard they may be going to 128-bit, though.

Adobe now support 128-bit encryption technology in there new Acrobat 5.0 proggy. So there's no reason why they can't use it in other programs too now.
