then extracting md5.exe from md5.zip and typing
md5 followed by the name of the file and hitting Enter.

Just modify "main.c" in rmd160.tar.gz to get it to work under windows. Replace the <unistd.h> and the relative functions with appropriate windows routines. "rmd160.c" and "rmd160.h" are platform-independent.

It includes MD5, RIPEMD-160, CRC32 ( ), SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 and many HAVAL variants.

Firstly, you gave me expert advice and when I could not use the expert
advice because of my own lack of knowledge, you actually put an
attachment that I can use to get the RIPEMD-160 hash of a file.

I had posted on so many boards asking how to get the RIPEMD-160 hash of
a file but nowhere is there such knowledge and helpfulness as there is
here.

To honor your knowledge with more questions I am only beginning to
learn. For example, there's a program called AutoWipe which can be
downloaded from

I was facinated how it counted down from 15 days and then expired.
If it was on day 6 and you uninstalled the program and then installed
it again, it "remembered" and was still on day 6 when it was
re-installed. I had no idea at all how it did this. From reading on the
internet I got a clue what it did to the computer. Searching the
registry for "AutoWipe" I found deleting
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\iNetPrivacy\AutoWipe
caused it to simply lose count and revert back to the 15 days.

That was so simple but it took me ages to work it out.

Another program was more devious. Ultra Lingua which can be downloaded
from
http://www.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/lang/ule30.zip
counted down from 30 days. Deleting this
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\PSEMEE
restored the computer to its original state. Took me months to find
that out and how I eventually did it was I used a program called
InCtrl4(In Control 4) which can be downloaded from
ftp://ftp.zdnet.com/acq/downloads/pub/zd/PCMag/inctrl4.zip
The program InCtrl4 showed me that Ultra Lingua made the write to the
registry as "PSEMEE". Ultra Lingua was so devious it did not write to
the registry in its own name!

Now I'm completely baffled again.
Does anyone know how to restore computer to its original state after
installing and uninstalling UltraEdit?

It is most extremely ethical to know what changes a program makes to
your computer. This is especially true when a program tries to hide
from the PC user the changes it makes to the computer. It is in this
most extremely ethical search for truth that I wish to know how to
restore computer to its original state after installing and
uninstalling that UltraEdit program.
