Hi,
I recently upgraded my computer to a P4 with 512MB ram.
I have tried to run softice (from driverstudio 2.01) on my WinME:
I edited winice.dat to reflect the memry configuration,
Restart the computer with softice.

I get BOSD with a message that VCACHE faild to allocate memory.
if i set the entry in winice.dat to a lower value (128), windows will now load but now I get from time to time exception 0E inside softice.

Any Ideas!?

Hello Anticode !

Please open your SYSTEM.INI, search for "[vcache]", insert two variables "MinFileCache=" and "MaxFileCache=" and set their values to a number of kbytes.
I suggest to set it to 65536, since nobody will have the need for a 512MB file cache.
64MB are OK for me, I don't need more, but I haven't tried more. So if it doesn't work for 128MB, try 64MB.

Hi!

I had 24Mb in my prev. computer so I had PHYSMB=24 in my winice.dat. In the one I use now there is 512, but it went correctly with the 24Mb setting. After setting PHYSMB=512 it didn't start - BSOD if I remember good (this was on 98SE btw). So I wrote it back to 24 and it runs fine since then. Just set it to 24 or some little value
btw: Why does softice need this value? Does anyone know?
I only have a little problem. I think it isn't in connection with the mem setting, but who knows
Sometimes it does not read the INIT line until the end but olny some characters (~15). Sometimes it's ok, and starts perfectly.
Anyone knows why? (I think it's not beacuse it's too long since in most cases it starts up and processes the INIT line fine)

Hope it will work for you too.
Best regards,
kp
