In an attempt to help evaluator with IceDump problems I have noticed something strange and hope that someone out there can help with the confusion. The problem relates to attempting to get IceDump to work with DriverStudio 2.5 and/or 2.6.
IceDump version 6024 was released to be compatable with DriverStudio 2.5 but has VDX's for "version 4.25.824." However the version of DriverStudio 2.5 I have, which says that it is the "final" version, has Softice version 4.2.5 (Build 240) and IceDump does not recognize it.
When I installed DriverStudio 2.6 it tells me that it is version 4.2.6 (build 336) while IceDump release 6025 claims to be looking for version 4.2.6."922". Both these build numbers are way way off the versions that IceDump claims it is looking for, and none of them load.
I also noticed in the DOS window when IceDump is started that it actually says that it is looking for a particular version of the Softice "Loader." Does this mean that the Loader is the important "version" that determines whether it works or not?
I also noticed that in DriverStudio 2.6, both Softice and the Loader32 are version 4.2.6.336, while the "siremote" loader is actually 4. 2.6.922, the version number IceDump claims to be keyed to recognize.
Some time back +Splaj discussed D.S.2.5 hiding and reported some confusion between the "version" number and the "properties" identification of the Softice for NT that he was using, but apparently he got it to work with the NT version. I've noticed several threads in the TOT forum which describe problems with getting Icedump to work with D.S. 2.5 and 2.6. Has anyone gotten it to work on Win98SE? If so how???
Can anyone explain whether IceDump is actually looking at the version of Softice or the version of the Loader32 and why the "final" version of D.S. 2.5 would be nearly 500 versions less than what IceDump seems to be looking for. If I can't get it to work I can always go back to version 4.05, where these problems didn't exist, but I would like to understand what the hell is going on with these version numbers. Anybody with some information would be appreciated.
Regards.
