Hi folks,

Just wondering what is the most reliable tool to identify the compiler type of an exe... i am using Get Type, PEIdentifier, Language 2000 and File Inspector, they each gave a different results about the compiler type of the same exe... i am kinda confused now... so just wonder if there is an updated tool out there? What are you guys using anyway?

Thanx for your replies,

Cheers,

Hello binh81 !

The best thing for identifying compilers or protectors is your brain.

I've never used any of these tools myself, since a hex-editor and your brain are the best file identifiers.

Hello binh81 !

Sorry, I've no tutorials available. It's all in my brain.

There is no need learn all signatures from compilers.

Just look at the secition names, at the segments, at the imported DLLs, at the exports, at the imported/exported function names, at the resource section, at copyright strings, ...

The list is unending. You'll find clues all over the file.

May I ask why you want to identify all compilers?

Hi dakien,

yeah... well i figure that it is always nice to know what compiler is used so cracking it with the right technique is always easier... Recently i have found that those AsProtected apps with D-D in newbies forums are all compiled with Delphi, just needed to confirm the suspicion... but i think i am right about it...

Shall look into compiler when i have more times in the future :>... one thing at a time.... :>

Cheers,
Thanx for your help anyway :>... always appreciated!!!!
