Hiya,

I apologize in advance if this is a little "off topic"...I need the reference for the floppy disk format specification (ie. location of boot sectors, FAT, ect). I have searched exhaustively on google, but don't seem to be able to find any really "low level" information about the underlying geometry of the data organization on the disk. I have tried various queries to the effect of:

"floppy disk" + format
"floppy disk" + geometry
"floppy disk" + specifiction
MS-DOS + disk format
.
.
.
ect...

Possibly, I am not asking the right question? My searches turn up plenty of info on "how to format a floppy", but nothing on the "floppy format"

Any pointers in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Clandestiny

Hi Clandestiny,
i don't know if it's what you are looking for but take a look at:
http://board.win32asmcommunity.net/showthread.php?threadid=3462&highlight=floppy
if i remember well in the forum there are lot of threads about floppy geometry, try using the search feature...

good luck!

Hi:

Perhaps you can also try with more specific search. Searching in google with "floppy sector FAT" (without the " " gave same urls which may be of your interest... Despite searching all information in one search it could be a good idea serching what you are looking for in diferent pieces but more directly.

Good luck .

Thanks for the suggestions

ZaiRon: As usual, the win32 ASM board was full of useful info Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortuanately, the win32 ASM board is just that: "win32", and this is supposed to be a linux floppy dumper sort of tool... The win32 stuff was still informative though.

remi: Good advice. Yeah, that was the trick... A more specific search about FAT and floppy boot sector.

Anyway, I found what I needed

Cheers,
