I loaded DS 2.6 at work on an Xp machine and it worked just great....but I didn't have SP1 on it, although that shouldn't matter too much.

hi
quite interesting for me since ice never worked on my xp's
and, as |'ve seen a thread at exetools about issue from numega - ice is working without any service packs/hot fixes
what did ya mean 'ruining' the installation? ice quite easy uninstall

That's what u think
last time sice completly messed up my registry
result : i was "forced" to re-install XP

sorry but i don't have any bad with uninstalling ice, that's why i wrote.
if you suspect ice from screwing system, then do a snapshot of the system partn... or system restore snapshot... or...
tht will revert system to state exactly as B4

Yes, but you don't need to snap ALL your software, you only need the important system stuff.
XP has a system restore feature in it that should work just fine - it's like the system recover that winME had, and that worked pretty good.
To bring a system back all you need is the system files intact and a good registry. So if those two items are backed up you should be just fine in being able to recover from any problems.

Yeah, but installing AL my programs after all is the other part of the problem...
most of them are picky (with licenses like ç and Fl@x-lm) so i dont think i want to ruin this installation
each two months i have to reinstall everything so when i am close to it i'l try softice with SP1
