OMG, I think the real question is WHY WinME ?? hehe

I would say Win98 is better, even if older. And if you're looking for a GOOD OS, or GOOD ENOUGH of an OS,
then you'd have to install either NT or Win2k (mind you, they've got some compatibility issues, both with hardware
and with software).

The only reason for ME is it comes installed along with some other M$ stuff I really don't want. Like I said I really don't know anything about ME or antbody that uses it for that matter.....I guess I should probably partition 2 primary hard drives and put my Win95 on the 2nd one and make it default so I can use things as they are untill I see if I want ME or not......I take it ME would not be the OS of choice....
Thanks

Good luck! I bought a new box to get a faster processor. It also had win me on it. After three weeks of using me i dumped it. I had numerous lockups and saw the "blue screen of death" more times than 5 years of win 95 and 98 put together. The next OS from M$ is probably called Whistler because of the wind rushing through all the holes : )

If memory serves me correctly (I don't use ME), you have to get a patch for the OS to use autoexec & config files to load softice at boot time (been awhile, so there may be a different workaround by now) ;-)

Thanks dooral ............first official notes I've seen on the subject.......Now comes the decision......So far the comments and opinions of the others about ME in general seem to be proving true.......not the greatest OS.....trying to give it a fair shake, but so much junk integrated into it........don't know if I'll keep it or not.....probably easier to partition two OS's , one ME, one Win95 and run softice from there, but I really appreciate your finding this........

I know not for sure... (memory leak - duh, Jimmy is getting old) but wasn't there an SoftIceLoader or an Patch included in IceDump solving this?

Gee... these are memories from the old insidetheweb board... I guess it's time to clear my 'cache' *g*
