I'm sure most of people using this board either use or have heard of Windows Commander. We all know it's kinda easy to patch the program to be registered even though it's a compressed/crc checked proggy.

However, I'm not interested in cracking the program. But whilst I looked at the latest version I looked at something I've never bothered looking at before - the wincmd.key loading and checking routine.

Now, this seems like a great key file function, and looks well protected with it's encryption from a glance. Is anyone else interested in trying to find out how it all works ?

maybe its unbreakable RSA, according to some warez releases NFO file.

ahh, public key encryption, with the decrypting key in Windows commander, and the encrypting key firmly in the hands of the author ?

Kinda shoots down the thread a bit...
