Currently i use Resource Hacker and ResTuner for my resource translation jobs.
I know that there are exist localization tools that handle translation better than the above. The problem with most of them is lack of a visual editors (for dialogs for example)
Do you know any other res editors with more features and better functionality ? I don't need advanced translation engines like those in multilizer or catalyst. Just a power res editor

You ever heard of Passolo ? I'm not very familiar with these kind of progs. So I don't know if this could be usefull for you. But I played a little bit with it and it is ment (among other things perhaps) for translation jobs.

AFAIK, Direct links ARE allowed as they are not clickable on this board. It got fixed a few months ago.

Your thought is correct, but "direct links" do not work on this Forum. They added code to prevent any link outside the Forum itself from being "clickable." So one can "copy and paste" but your own browser page becomes the "referrer" page, not this Board.

I think I need to clear this up a bit.

Direct links do not work expect for our server's IP and its DNS name (which is currently the same as the IP by configuration). Direct links should be avoided.

Sometimes people post direct links which point to a server's secret download directory you only get access to after signing up for a trial with your full address, after showing the author that you belong to a special group of people which are allowed to use his program, to full versions or similar.

This is not the only problem, there might be also some issues about "deep-linking" to shareware authors' homepages as some of them don't like this. (it is not only related to software, but to links in general also)

The referer is the main reason for possible problems. Search engines usually don't search as deep as the single posts are linked from the main page, but if a program's author looks at the referer, he can see very easy from which page the person downloading his software came initially (and complain about it).

As response to this, we've disabled direct links pointing outside of our domain. But there is still one problem. If a user uses copy&paste and puts the link into the address bar of the window he copied it from, the referer is still submitted in most browsers (only a manually opened and empty browser window sends no referer). And the "deep-linking" issue is still not solved.

In this case, there was neither a direct link to the software given, nor were we discussing how to reverse the software which was linked.

Since I don't see the point why informing somebody about a program and the appropriate homepage should be a legal problem, this will be always fine.

I'm seeking RE (resource editor), not resource ripper/extractor, a thing like resource editor in Visual Studio, it's very useful and far the best I know. It's problem is embeding into DevStudio IDE.

There does seem to be some mis-understanding.........

The intent was not the clickable links as much as it was
posting of a direct link to a company's software.

hxxp://www.blah.com does not stop the most important spy,
the search engine.

By allowing this place to be indexed I/we take the risk by using brand names and direct links.

I realize that in order for some problems to be solved the name of the software must be made available.
I just want to try to keep it to a minimum.

No big deal, it's not like "they" dont know we are here.
Lets just not make it so easy

I always use Resource Hacker and never have any problems with it and think its the BEST!!!

The original and the FIRST Resourse Editor was Borland resourse workshop that actually got banned by software makers..

Workshop does everythinng you,ll probably need to do when cracking etc but also has stuff you,d need to sit down and learn to get the benifit of its powerful features..I tried them all , Restorator , symantect etc but when i found Resource Hacker i was happy with it and now its all i use and need

We know this and we can tell this everybody, but still there will be some people who are not able to read, who don't want to read or who don't think they need to read and simply ignore this advice.
Take yourself for example. You are registered since ten months and there was an announcement for more than two months telling how direct links are regulated in future. I suppose you didn't read it for what reason ever.
And as you might find out by reading, "ssb" knows Resource Hacker and he's searching for a different tool.

We had the option "Automatically parse URLs..." off by default for some time, but some people managed it to turn it on again before posting.
This is one reason why we have rules for direct links now.

Visual studio is the best resource viewer. if you want to edit 16-bit programs you can use the old visual studio c++ 6.0 , if you want to edit 32-bit applications you use the visual studio .NET .

just open the exe file in the visual studio and the resources are yours to copy and paste
