Hi everyone.
First off, i must say that it's been a long time since
the last time i used softice.
And that was for windows98.
I now have win xp.
I installed softice 4.05NT
It seemed to install just fine, but when i went to reboot,
windows gave me a blue screen that said it wouldn't
boot into windows to 'prevent damage to my system'
or some crap.
So i had to shut down and reboot using 'last known good
configuration' and
windows loaded up again, but alas, no softice.

My Question is this :

Is this version of softice the best choice ?
and do i need to perhaps download any additional drivers
to keep this from happening again ?

TIA for any suggestions.

I've got a pretty good suggestion

1)Read the FAQ before you post anything here

2)theres a search button up on the 2 right hand corner

3) Driver Studio 2.7 should work pretty ok.

well, since SoftICE 4.05NT is meant for WindowsNT, and not WindowsXP, I'm not suprised it didn't work

Like dELTA says, DS2.7 will work fine however.

And please, use the search button before posting next time, this question has already been answered before!

Before you post another message, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT REQUESTING LINKS TO DS2.7 !

I was not going to ask for a link.
Believe it or not, i DO know better than that.
You are right i should have done a more extensive search.
SICE is -the- best debugger, but it seems that i am moving on
to olly dbg. At least for right now.
I did not find a complete ds2.7 source.
I think it was exetools that did have it at one time, but the
main site is down, and the mirror does not have it.
AND NO i am still not asking for a link, so don't flame me.
(just incase you were starting to wonder. )
I did find the sice4.27 rip by Croaker,
but it didn't install very well.
Anyhow, olly dbg is a nice debugger, and it is gaining some
popularity.
Maybe someday there will be more tutorials using olly dbg.

Thanxs for the feedback.

I have DS2.7 and I got the same error.
I seems to do fine when I load it manually.
....BTW I use olly, but still have to referance to SI at times.
So you need to find it.....!!!!!Krobar can tell you where!!!!!!

Good luck.

There are also several good posts and a couple of files to aid in the hiding of softice under WinXP & Win 2000. There is also a file for making Softice properly break on winmain. These are all available here if you use the search button. Try various combinations of "softice +Hid*" and "softice + break."

Regards.
